Using Plex Server with a VPN Synology NAS

Hi guys i got a DS916+ got PIA VPN up how ever my plex is using PIA VPN ip address which is not open
how do i get plex to use my normal ip address. how do i do it to get it working. it’s annoying me as i don’t want to turn off VPN as i download a lot of stuff  so would like it to keep it on

is there a task job i can get it to update with my real ip

If you’re trying to have split operations (the VPN and the normal), it won’t happen without you hacking the routing tables of Synology.

The big problem there is they don’t provide the command line tools other than route to make changes. you don’t have the needed iptables to move things around with.

i can use my own DYNDNS port :32400 is there away to get plex to use my own ie. myserver.mydomainname.com:32400

domain name. since it’s up 24x7 but when i use plex.tv it only get’s my vpn ip i wish i can get plex to use my own domain name anyway to get this to do it?

use your host file on the client machine (if you know what the IP address is)

eg

in /etc/hosts or whatever it is in windows (c:/windows/system32/drivers/hosts ??)

myserver.mydomainname.com ipaddress

or use split tunneling which is neater.

you dont really provide much detail so it is possible that I have misunderstood your question.

Is it that while connected to your vpn, you cannot access your plex server by hostname?

Is plex installed on the Synology ?
