Configuring Plex to work with IP Vanish VPN

Hi,

I have a Plex Media Server running on a Synology DiskStation (218+)

I use IP Vanish as a VPN

Within the Network Interfaces section on the Synology, I have created a VPN connection with my IP Vanish credentials and certificate.

If I want to browse files on my Synology from another device it works (with the VPN running)

The problem I’m having is with Plex - I cannot get remote access to work
I can see my private IP address (192.x.x.x) in Plex which is correct
I can see my public IP address (VPN) in Plex which is also correct.

But the error message is Your server is signed in to Plex, but is not reachable from outside your network

I think my issue is with ports / port forwarding, I have spent a week trying to get this to work I am stuck - hope someone can help

To make Plex work with a VPN, you need to hand-craft routing table entries which are not easily done on Synology.
