Server Version#: Windows 10 + all updates
Player Version#: Latest version of Plex (installed today)
I was having issues where devices on my network could not see the Plex DLNA server or if it could see it, it was only the name of the server (Windows 10 PC name) and not the contents.
Thinking this maybe due to Windows 10 updates i decided to reformat the PC and install everything all over again.
So cleaned the PC with everything re-formatted, installed Plex by downloading the latest version as of today. Once installed configured Plex and enabled DLNA.
Went to all the devices and everything works as expected.
I then enabled RDP (Remote Desktop Connection) on the PC and all of a sudden DLNA has stopped working.
Tried a couple of things such as disabling RDP etc etc but still couldnt get it to work. Considering i havent done a lot so far on this i decided to reinstall everything once again (Windows 10 + updates, Plex server and enabled DLNA).
Once again everything is working but once i enabled RDP, DLNA stops working for the devices.
I started to look into this to and realised a pattern. If i enable RDP DLNA stops working. To get this working again i have to disabled RDP, disable DLNA, restart the PC, enable DLNA and it all works again.
Is there anyway to allow RDP to be enabled and have DLNA activated?
I was running that same program as a service. When i reformatted i thought it may have been part of the reason why DLNA stopped working but i can reinstall that.
The reason why i need to RDP into the PC is purely to carry out any maintenance that might be required so although i can reinstall PMS again i dont think that would resolve the RDP issue?
RDP is only to maintain the PC. Nothing is played on this PC.
Other devices that connect to this PC play videos and music.
A few months ago i was able to RDP and use DLNA at the same time. At present i cant.
Are you saying when RDP is enabled the user context is being changed somewhere? I have one user on the PC which is what is being used to access RDP and any other services?
Yes, this is the same constellation as with my own server.
Even though it is the same user account that is used to both run the server and to log on per RDP, these may be different login sessions.
Running PMS as a service is cleanly separating things.
Although I must add, that updating PMS is not as convenient as it was before.
