Server Version#: 1.23.0.4438-5eef0fd80
Player Version#: 1.31.1.2262-74fdc6b7 (player is on a Mac)
The player or web lost connecting the server in less than a minute after I close out a RDP on any device. It only works when I have a RDP running to the server on a PC, or a Mac, or even a tablet.
If you “Log Out” of your RDP session, you close Plex Server. Plex runs as an application and runs only when a windows account is logged in. You have to close your rdp without logging out.
Can’t it run as service?
Thank you Uh_Oh. I’m running Plex server as a service on Windows 10. Besides, this had never been a problem before. I had the same setup years. I always need to RDP to the server computer to work something else. This only started happening about one or two weeks ago.
Yes, I’m running the Plex server as both an application and a service.
Not natively. Only via 3rd party tools, and you face issues with a lack of hardware transcoding when you do so.
You have to choose one way or the other, and stick to it. The second you run it as an application you lose the ability to log out of rdp. There is no seamless transition from application back to service.
Thank you so much for your time. But what exactly should I do? Or what has changed on Plex? I never had this problem before. I’m will to change what I’ve been doing to make it work. Keep a computer or a tablet on RDP to the server is not practical and very annoying.
I can’t say that for sure. I don’t use, and haven’t used Plex as a service.
Why can’t you close your RDP instead of logging out? Only thing you have to do when back at your W10 system is log back into the disconnected console?
If that doesn’t work for you, how abut using a tool like TightVNC or TeamViewer to access your system remotely without needing to use RDP?
Thank you again Uh_Oh. I just downloaded and started to use the Plex server as service today trying to fix the problem. I never log out of RDP, only close the session. I even have the Group Policy for RDP to set a time limit on disconnected sessions to Enabled for never.
Just checking - when you rdp in, you’re using the same account that Plex is installed in, correct?
Yes, I have only one account on the Windows 10 which is hosting the Plex server. I just installed Teamviewer as you suggested. Closed the RDP. Fingers crossed.
Hopefully this will provide the stability you’re looking for. fingers crossed
Connection lost. “Playback Error. content is unavailable”. Something has to be changed Plex side. I had no problem for at least a year. Nothing changed my end. I even disabled the Windows 10 auto updates. All of sudden it happened.
I’m officially out of my league. You’ll want to gather logs from your server so that someone more knowledgeable can investigate further. Best wishes in getting this resolved!
Thank you Uh_Oh. Where can I find help? Seems like Plex doesn’t have official support for their customers.
This is the place.
Gather your logs using this: Plex Media Server Logs | Plex Support
Then hopefully someone with more knowledge can assist. There are plenty of users with more technical ability that know the logs that can point out things I can’t decipher from them.
Thank you so very much!!!
@trumpy81 I’m out of my league. Can you look at this or get somebody that can?
Thanks.
