Server Version#: 1.25.2.5319, but this has been happening for months
Player Version#: Current version on Roku Ultra
I don’t know when the problem started, but it was happening this spring IIRC.
Basically, if I end up using the back/forward “10 second” skip buttons either too often or too quickly (haven’t quite nailed it down) on our Roku, the Plex Media Server locks up on my Mac (Mac mini on Monterey). I have to restart the server app entirely. It seems like it is stuck trying to “transcode,” even though I’ve explicitly disabled all transcoding options I can find in the server settings.
Skipping forward only seems to have no issues – I’m a speed demon at using the skip button to skip commercial breaks. The problems seem to only occur if I’m skipping forward and backward, usually in quick succession. Usually, this happens if I “overshoot” a commercial break and have to skip back, or especially if I miss the end of the break twice. It doesn’t always happen, maybe once a week on average, but at totally random times, and different shows.
We’re using the DVR function, and I’ve only really seen this happen with DVR content (which is coming from an HDHomeRun and OTA antenna). But I believe that may just be because the time it almost always seems to happen is related to commercial breaks, which of course aren’t in our other libraries.
It’s definitely a problem on the server. Rebooting the Roku has no effect, the server won’t respond for other clients, and, most troublingly, any shows that were either in the process of recording are lost, and until I restart the server, the DVR records nothing else.
