I updated my Plex server to this version 1.18.5.2260 and tried this :
(Prefs) Exposed an advanced preference to disable video transcoding (#10891)
And it doesn’t work. It still saying that my server is not powerfull enough to convert the video.
My server : Raspberry Pi 4 with an H265 video
My Client : Amd 3900x, Geforce 2070 super
If I good anderstood, with this option, my server should’t try to transcode the video right?
Sorry, that still doesn’t tell me what particular Plex client software you have installed on that client PC.
If you are simply uisng the web app, then you can’t play HEVC video. Because web browsers dont support HEVC. Playback will always fail.
The option to disable transcoding will not magically make play incompatible data formats.
You need to install either Plex Media Player or Plex for Windows (download below) onto that PC, in order to be able to direct-play HEVC video.
I got the same problem today.
Try to start a movie (1080p) in chrome, but got that message “server is not powerful”.
When i disable “no transcode” and restart plex everything works again.
I really dosent want plex to transcode when my user have 250Mbit or more and use players like chrome, Mibox and rasplex.
Sorry, yes I was using the web app.
I installed right away Plex for Windows, connected to my account, but now it doesn’t show my movies, I says that I don’t have acces to my server!
What should I do?
Sorry, I restarted my Plex for windows and now my movies are there.
Also, it seems that there is no transcoding anymore, the h265 files that didn’t work before runs fine now
Sitll, it doesn’t work with my tv android box Xiaomi, that is able to read h265 files, 4k 60fps.
I’ve had related issues too.
The Plex server app (1.18.5.2309-f5213a238) is installed on a Synology NAS and the player is on an Apple TV 4.
H.264 movies are usually playing fine, but I have a few high def H.265/AAC .m4v movies that can play just fine natively on the Apple TV 4 I have, but for some reason, Plex seems to think the files need to be transcoded and can’t do it fast enough to fluid playback in the AppleTV Plex app.
I can use Beamer to send the file and play it on the AppleTV for smooth playback without any transcoding.
So… although I didn’t specifically disable transcoding, the Plex Server should not have to transcode the compatible files as far as I understand it.
