+1... seems about time...
It's amazing how well the transcoding works when used with Synology's own apps. I haven't used it much at all, since I use Plex for all my video, but I happened to play a file using the DS File iOS app just now, and the thing screams. It had no issues whatsoever transcoding a 20 GB Matroska file. Having this capability with Plex would be absolutely terrific.
I understand that HW transcoding for a specific NAS is way too much work for the Plex team, mostly because Synology chose to go with the Evansport chipset which is different from everything else from what I gather.
So this makes me wonder: are there any other NAS devices with transcoding abilities that Plex does support? I.e. is there a way to not have a PC and still enjoy transcoding?

This is a good question. I dont think there are (assuming you mean hardware acceleration), but I wonder if there are better future possibilities than Evansport.
I know there are other new NASs that also advertise 1080p transcoding so it seems some trend in this direction is beginning and Plex would be wise to jump on it.
UP!
my media center needs would be fully met if this support was added. without it, plex pass feature "Sync" is unusable as it takes 3-4 hours to convert 1 movie
+1 from me. :)

+1, I want this so much.

I decided to stop my subscription plexpass, I can not support a team that does not listen to the demands of the community.
I think I’d do the same if I hadn’t a lifetime plex pass. Fortunately the Video Station works quite well for me. Nevertheless it’s a pity.

Well, this is understandable.

This is also understandable yet now you're letting down the people who have tried to support the LIFETIME of Plex, now I know you're all trying your hardest with Plex, and are pushing amazing support to other devices (playback wise), however it really is sad to see that this vote has gone on nearly a whole year, and has the HD 1080p Hardware Transcoding been supported? PlexPass supporters are paying you're wages, and what are you doing to them here?
I'm glad I never baught a NAS system yet, and am now swaying more towards a workstation based server, but seriously Plex, please focus more on any kind of NAS Hardware Transcoding if it's possible, as this is where you're going to be able to get more money from. You could even partner up officially with some of the NAS manufacturers to completely replace their own software, and then that advertises you more.
Well the reason I pay for my PlexPass is, as the software you're providing is A: Free to the masses and B: A superb piece of software. The major problem here is that you're focusing on playback devices rather than server devices, which isn't really a bad thing, as you do support Windows, Mac, Linux and FreeBSD, which in itself is a huge thing.
I appollogise if this post sounds harsh but seriously, you need to listen to posts that have been voted up for years,
TS
Actually, Plex has listened to the voting...
PS3/4 client, probably the most voted on feature request in Plex's history.
Parental controls another heavy voted on feature request.
Multi-user modes (Home)
Chromecast
Play lists
These are just some of the requests subscribers have voted into being on these forums. The question I have to ask of those who are talking about giving up their Pass subscriptions over this feature is: Would Plex's time have been better spent working on this request (even though it has around 400 likes) and forgoing one of the other requests above?
Would Plex's time be better spent working on this or the security issues that are potentially affecting every Plex Media Server out there?
Where and how do you allocate resources for a resource limited company trying to keep every one happy? I've been very vocal about Plex's security and lack of tools/controls. By no means am I a party line guy. BUT, you do have to cut them some slack, just because a given feature that affects some small part of the subscriber base isn't made RIGHT NOW...
To Exormiste... You have, what, 7 posts total, 5 of which are in this thread.... We get it, you want this feature.... You have helped the community to no end with your contributions. NOT! <_< Another IWANTITNOWer not getting his toys.... Sorry, but this is how I see your post about not renewing your Plex Pass.
To calm the waves concerning myself: I’m okay with Video Station for now, as this works fine for my only use case: streaming to iOS. If I had a monthly or yearly subscription I’d quit, because Plex just doesn’t work for me right now. But I hope at some point in the future I can and will use Plex again – lifetime lasts long ;) Keep it up!

Been waiting for almost 2 years... has there been any respond from Plex?

Were you promised any?
Plex hasn't taken up on doing this even while seeing the paltry number of votes it has. Isn't that a response?
Plex has never, ever, promised this feature would be included. "Voting" for a feature doesn't make Plex responsibly for its implementation or even an official response on it. It just helps them when deciding what to slot into their pipeline.

like to see the transcoding feature supported by Synology's hardware
+1 New ds415play owner. Just upgraded to flex pass to support you guys implementing this critical feature...
