Video Calibration / Overscan:

In order to get the entire picture onto the screen, I have to adjust Overscan Compensation in Video Calibration. The values I wind up with (for 1920x1080@60.00 - Full screen) are “Top-Left overscan compensation (40,24)” and “Bottom-Right overscan compensation (40,24)

Is having to compensate for overscan normal? Am I winding up with a less-than-ideal image if I’m essentially shrinking the RasPlex’s output by “pulling in the corners”? Is there something else I should be doing instead / in addition?

If there is an online reference with this (and more) information regarding setup best practices, please point me in that direction!

Thank you

You are effectively reducing resolution (i.e. sharpness and fidelity) of your video picture. You should examine your TV’s manual on how to disable overscan, which is totally useless with a digital source.

On some TV models the overscan can only be disabled by selecting a picture set-up like ‘PC-mode’. Some models have a hidden service menu where you can disable overscan.
Some models have an ‘official’ preference in the normal picture setup menu.

On my Samsung UN46EH5300 the setting was “Screen Fit” to disable overscan (as opposed to the default 16:9)

Now my RasPlex (and all my other devices) fit perfectly with (0,0) Calibration (and everything looks even better than I imagined was possible!)

Awesome! Thank you so much for the quick response!
