Video in Photos Library are not working

CAUTION - When you downgrade to Plex version 8.27.129, make sure you turn off “auto update apps” in the play store settings on your android TV device

I forgot to do this and it was updated to the 8.29 version and I experienced the same issue

the 8.27 version of the plex client for Arm based android TV fixes this on Nvidia shield/Channel Master and Firestick 4K - I assume it will be the same for all android tv based products

i will check the play store in a month or so and see if it is safe to get back on the update wagon - but for now , it works !!

One thing for sure, I will alway archive the latest working version of my key apps

I use an app called “solid Explorer” on my android TV devices Great File manager/Network Browser application.

Turns out also is an easy way to download and install apps as well as extract apps on your device

You are correct. There was an update on 2/3/2022, but it didn’t fix the android player issue. Had to downgrade again and turn off auto update.

Noticed a beta android release, 8.30.0 posted on 2/82022. Unfortunately, this one doesn’t fix the photo folder video player issue.

Same issue here: Only sound when playing video in a photo library

down grade your client to a known good version and turn off automatic upgrades.

the latest updates to the android tv client did not fix the issue.

i keep a copy of both my client and my server apps in a folder called ‘last known working plex app’

Its not working to downgrade my client, the app close at the beginning everytime :frowning:

you cant use the google play store to downgrade, you need to uninstall your current client, then find and install a previous version of the client that was a known good version.

on android tv, you will need to enable ‘install unknown 3rd party apps’ in settings.

needless to say, much easier to turn off updates on a working install. i will only updste going forward when i am forced to do so

I know, I did all of that

But after the installation, when I try to start it, I saw the Plex logo and the app close

This is what works for me on my FireTV and Android phones:

  1. Turn off auto-update for apps
1.a - Optional: Open Apps in the Settings and Force Stop the app, clear cache, clear data, restart
  2. Uninstall the existing version of Plex
  3. Enable ‘install unknown 3rd party apps’ in Settings.
  4. Head over to Plex for Android - #410 by akila_plex
  5. Download and install Plex for Android 8.27.2 from Dec '21. This is the last version that works on my Android devices.
  6. It’s unreal that this issue hasn’t been fixed!

@alfredborges Thank you for your advice, I truely do appriciate it. However it is hardly a solution but could work in some cases.

For me however, when sideloading apps to my Android TV box, they will no longer show up on the main page and it is a pain to find and launch them. Much more than I can expect of the family. I am affraid that a fix from Plex is what is needed here… - From a quick look through I have found 3-4 other theads on this same topic. Only question is, how to get the attention of someone from Plex?

Nvidia shield users- has any one tested this?

Sounds great! Any ideas on when the staged rollout will hit Denmark? 8 days have passed, a bit more than the day or two in the announcement. Have been waiting a bit already, so a few more days should be doable…

Sadly not, but you could do a manual install

For the Nvidia Sheild , as of this evening 03/16/2022, The version available of the plex client is version 8.30.8.31, which is not fixed, still having issues with video payback from the photos library

So watch out for this and install version 8.31
