Hello,
Im not able to watch any video that are with my photos. The sound is starting but there is a orange circle spinning. Its not working on Shield Plex app, Firestick or my Cellphone Plex app. But its working good on Windows Plex app or any TV app. Look like its a problem with Android app. What I can do?
You would find one on so-called apk mirror site, but be aware that it is not official way and the apk can harm your device.
If you just want to debug, you can try but don’t use the apk found on the internet on every day basis, it could be modified and contain some malware or worse.
The most current version updated by my Samsung phone is Plex for Android 8.29.0, which was updated yesterday and still doesn’t work. The last version that worked was Plex for Android 8.27.2, published on 12/21/2021. I’m currently running 8.27.2 and turned off auto-update in Google Play until things are figured out. I’m having the exact same problem with my Channel Master Stream+ AND my Amazon Fire TV - they worked fine one day - the next, BOTH wouldn’t play any videos in my photos folder.
Same symptom - audio plays as normal, but the video is frozen with a spinning orange circle.
As an experiment, I moved one of my MP4s (a cellphone video) from the photo folder to the video folder - and it plays fine.
This seems like a very simple issue for Plex to identify and fix – I’m surprised it has not yet been addressed. It’s a major annoyance for users like us; I’ve numerous nature videos, et al, I’ve taken over the years in my photos folder - and I cannot view any of them thru my Android streaming devices.
How do I download and install a previous version on a streaming device like Amazon Fire TV? It would be easy on a phone or laptop - however, via the main menu on Fire TV I have limited options for accessing software versions to install on a Fire TV. The only Plex app available to download in the Apps section is the current buggy version.
The fire TV is hard to do, the hardest thing is getting the file on the device
Do you have a way to hook up a USB stick ? There are “OTG” cables that let you share the USB port to hook up a USB stick and still power the device
Another way is to get something like esfile explorer, I do that. I mount a file share on my home network
Another way is to install the silk browser and navigate to the link and download directly
Same here, latest versions, all android apps won’t play videos in photos library, when tested in videos library, everything works great.
However I found a workaround, if Android app has enabled the use external players, all videos will play fine, whatever library they are on, at least on phones, haven’t tested this on Android TV.
