Video Preview Thumbnail what does it work on?

I’ve up voted and created a feature request for this. (fire TV and xbos360)

I’m posting here because I think some attention and clarity needs to be brought to this feature.

I’d say I am smarter than the average bear when it come to this stuff (not to smart… just smarter than average  )

-AND-

I think there are a lot of plex users that have no idea what “Video preview thumbnails” are… and how awesomely desirable they are. the only reason I learned is I have a Roku… which does this. and I have:

  1. windows modern app (which doesn’t)
  2. xbox 360 (which doesn’t)
  3. windows phone (which doesn’t)

Could we get a list of what platforms currently support this? and if there are platforms that cannot support it what they might be as well? and of course any platforms you are currently working to bring this magic too??

My attempt at explaining what they are:

when fast forwarding or rewinding WITHOUT “video preview thumbnails” you have no idea where you are in the show. forcing you to guess and hit play, and hope for the best. Video preview thumbnails put hundreds of video snaps shots on the time line so you have a pretty good idea where you are in the video.

Great that is certainly better than my description. are there any issues preventing it from being added to other platforms? (besides programmer effort?)

I could imagine

  • bugs in the device software which plex has no access to
  • limited cpu power (or other restrictions) of the device preventing the feature to work satisfactorily
  • a user interface which does not provide a means to “scrub”, therefore rendering the video thumbnails useless

The post provided no longer specifies what apps support it - Could we get an updated list?
