Player Version#: 2.26.0.947-1e21fa2b
I am having issues improving the video quality. Here is my setup:
Plex Server is running on a very overpowered PC, including a Ryzen 7 2700X 8 core CPU, 32 GB, ram, 300Mbps upload speed. I have tried maxing out all settings related to quality, including turning off “Automatically adjust quality (Beta)”, setting my Video quality to “Maximum”, my transcoder quality is set to “Make my CPU hurt”, and my background transcoding x264 preset is set to Medium. All basically as high that Plex has available. My CPU usage is still very acceptable even with these settings while transcoding an HD movie, so I strongly believe the server is not the bottleneck. I have also tried pre-transcoding a movie to an “Optimized Version” and set it to the highest quality (Original Quality), then restarting the server and playing both the optimized and live transcoded versions. No matter which videos I try this with the quality is still blurry and showing major pixelation with any movement.
For the player I’ve tested this on a powerful laptop with a 100Mbps download speed, as well as a smart TV with a 50Mbps download speed. The laptop CPU never throttled or went above 25%.
Both the upload data sent from the server and download on the play showed activity moving between 8-20Mbps so I know it’s sending over some major data.
Does anyone have any suggestions how I could improve this quality. With my setup and these settings I would expect much better results.
I’ve tried to attach a quick screenshot of a video to give a better example of what I’m experiencing. This is a 1080p MKV at about 4Gb file size. The raw file looks crystal clear, but this version through Plex is very poor.
The other thing that is very odd and makes me believe it is something to do with how I’ve configured it, is that the quality doesn’t seem to change when I adjust any of these settings. It makes me think that they are somehow not applying, or that this is truly as good as it will get.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
