Video rotating when played on tv

When video is recorded on portable devices, its always recorded the same way, but a “rotation” flag is saved in the file.

On playback, the rendering device is expected to rotate the video appropriately for display. TVs are notoriously bad about aspect ratios and rotation flags.

You haven’t given much info about the type of playback device you are using.

Three things you can try that might help -

Disable Direct Play on the playback device. That will allow Plex to repackage the video stream into a new container, and might help.

Or change the playback quality, reducing it slightly. This will force the Plex Server to transcode it, which will also force it to render it WITH the rotation, so the TV won’t have yo.

Or Optimize the video in Plex. Like the previous option this will force Plex to render the video and perform the rotation - but can be done at a higher quality if you choose.

If that doesn’t work, please share more info about the phone and playback device/TV. A short sample might be useful. And the XML Media Info from the video in Plex.
