Hello, I am having issues playing a home video file that was recorded in portrait mode on plex on my fire stick. In plex on my firestick, it plays it portrait mode (black bars on the left and right side), but it flips the video.
When I play the same file on the plex webapp on my media server it plays fine, both in portrait mode and the video is right side up.
I used the exiftool to determine the file’s rotation is 90 degrees. I’ve tried to set the rotation on the file to, 0, 180, 270, and 360 and nothing works to fix this issue on the plex app on firestick.
IIRC, the Android based Plex apps don’t respect the flag identifying the rotation of a home video. You can force that video to be transcoded… the resulting stream should be displayed as desired.
I’m not sure if this has been addressed / fixed with the new-experience apps.
Thanks for the quick response! This did work, partially. To get the video to play in the correct orientation I had to set “Home Streaming” to “4 Mbps, 720p HD (High)”, however this will result in all my videos playing in that quality including regular movies, shows etc. Doing it on a per home video basis isn’t desirable since some videos are quite short and it takes quite a few remote click to do it a on per video basis.
Also, even when it is set to “4 Mbps, 720p HD (High)”, the tiles that show the videos in the library are still the incorrect orientation.
