Video rotated in Plex but plays correctly in VLC

Plex Server: Linux 1.40.4.8679

My kids had a competition over the weekend that was live streamed on social media. After the live stream was over, I did a screen recording saving parts of the live stream. When I play this video back on my phone, the video looks correct. When I play it back on VLC (on my Plex Linux server), the video looks correct. When I play the video back in anything Plex (Plex web UI, Plex Roku app, Plex Android app), the video is rotated 90 degrees.

I’ve used FFMPEG to rotate the video, but I cannot get it to rotate to the correct orientation. I can get it to flip 180 degrees, but 90 degrees does nothing in Plex… although I do see the correct rotations in VLC.

Am I missing something here?

Anybody know what could be going on here?

Most likely the video is directly played and the client‘s video player ignores the technical parameter that identifies the orientation of the video (in case it’s different from how it was recorded).
If you force the client to transcode the video, it should apply the correct orientation.
