Video stuttering since version 8.18 of the Apple TV app

To get access to TestFlight builds you have to join the Beta. It will not help as the oldest build available is 8.29 as they expire in 90 days.

Hi folks!

First of all, my deepest apologies for not coming back and sharing more updates on this with you guys. There’s really no excuse, and I’ll do my best to do better going forward. Your feedback is invaluable and your time precious.

We’ve continued to work on this, and just started internal tests of a new build that hopefully will improve things for folks who were having issues around stuttering and thermal throttling! :crossed_fingers:

No ETA (yet) on when we’ll advance to the next stage, but hopefully very soon! We’ve been working really hard on this, and although there’s never a silver bullet that solves all problems, we’re hoping this will improve things a lot!

And of course, we’ll let you guys know when it’s available for testing and look forward for your feedback!

Great news. Thanks for the update.

Can you confirm support for Metal? All else is a band-aide.

Awesome ! This kind of transparency is very much appreciated - thank you !

If this also fixes the audio sync. I won’t have any reason to come here & complain

We’re focusing mainly on the video performance right now, but hoping that this also addresses some issues with audio. When an update comes out with this fix, if you still have audio sync issues, let us know all the details so we can try and investigate

There is setting in the tvOS Plex App to mitigate the audio sync issue. During playback click down on the directional pad and under Playback Settings scroll down through the audio settings and the last one is Audio Offset. You can change the setting to address the audio sync issue. A similar setting is also in the Infuse app.

@hsousa any chance you can do a purge on the ATV beta please? been trying to get into the beta for years? really want to test this once it reaches beta phase.

Yeah would definitely be nice to see some beta invites for all of us in this thread who have been dealing with the issue for a long time

Yea sure, but don’t purge those of us that are in TestFlight already and been waiting for fixes.

I use the TestFlight constantly and still got purged about a month ago.

Will this new update address the video performance issues that the non-4K Apple TVs have suffered from since tvOS17?

Great news if the audio sync issues are also fixed. I’ve used the offset but it’s never perfect  Really excited for this update :crossed_fingers:

This is very exciting. It’s obviously not the easiest thing to implement but ultimately the right decision as this issue left unresolved would mean greater numbers of Apple TV users moving to Infuse.

Fingers crossed for a good solution to this :metal:

Indeed. I was just about to make an Infuse purchase because Plex on my Apple TV has been driving me crazy. I’ve reverted to the old video and audio engines per recommendations in this thread and will be monitoring this thread for a more permanent solution.
