Beta invite requested, looking forward to get testing with the new MPV version.
Does anyone with this beta know if ASS subtitles were broken by the update or if they just never worked? It’s been so long since I used Plex properly. Infuse shows the subtitles formatted correctly, Plex shows them as plain text and duplicates every line.
I also still have quite the same Stuttering problem as before. It is not dependent on high Resolution or bitrate.
Which beta build are you using? Because I just saw that comment in the other thread:
When I did some testing a few days ago and saw that the video stuttering disappeared, it was with the build using the MoltenVK/Metal renderer.
It might maybe explain what you’re seeing here.
The only built I get in TestFlight is 8.34 (8096). That’s the one I’m using.
Any update on this? I have been using Plex since 2013. It used to be the best of the best till issues. I started with Roku’s and made it up till the 3rd gen ultras. Then video playback would stop after 5 min or so. This happened in my gen 2 and gen 3 ultras after an update. Switched to Apple TV 4K 2021. Plex worked great for about a year. Then got the micro stutter issue. I switched to infuse pro (it just works) and everything has been fine and never looked back. Recently upgraded to the 2022. Figured let’s try Plex again. The micro studder is still there. I did sell my 2021 devices so couldn’t try going back to them. I am a lifetime plexpass member and regret purchasing it. Plex by far is a better setup for me. But it’s just not usable and that’s disappointing. You guys need to fix this issue already. 1+ years is just unacceptable. Shame on you.
It’s in Beta testing at present and is looking promising.
I’m having HDR tone mapping issues on this beta. Everything all washed out that isn’t on the regular non beta plex app. Everything looks fine as far as settings. Any ideas?
Edit: had to revert to old player on settings. That needs to be fixed.
To be clear, which Beta are you referring? I’m not seeing your HDR tone mapping issue with the Beta testing group Version: 8.37
8.37 on Apple TV and iPhone. They properly tone mapped in non beta clients with old player turned off.
Yes, there were two versions of 8.37 pushed to TestFlight.
8.37 (8587) Has the HDR/DV issue.
8.37 (8585) Does not have the HDR/DV issue.
- How does one revert or just wait for the next update?
Just install again
I get better results when using the native Apple player so that’s what I will be using. The plex player has issues playing some 4K content and audio sync issues with my receiver. The playback stutters on some 4K content but plays perfectly with the native player.
So what I do is setup sickbeard_mp4_autoamator to remux my videos to mp4 before adding to my library and I have a script to do the same for my recordings. Now everything plays perfect. Maybe one day Plex will resolve the issues with the mov player but I wouldn’t be holding my breath.
Hey there, any update on when the update for the thermal throttling / stuttering will come for the Apple TV. Question is there any thing that I can do to improve it?
Cheers
Just bumping this up because the issue is still present in my Apple TV 4K 3rd gen on tvOS 17.5.1. Higher bitrate scenes stutter at random and it’s highly unpleasant. Same content through the same plex server but using VLC (DLNA) instead works like a charm.
I’m so sick of the stuttering, and it’s only getting worse. Using app version 8.39 now, so I guess the big Metal update in 8.34 didn’t help much. For me, it does not happen on literally every video, but stutter does occur in at least 3 different scenarios I’ve identified:
- for some specific videos (so far only 4k HDR/DV) the stutter is immediate and extreme, like in the single digits FPS range. This is only a small subset of videos, but on those videos it is 100% reproducible. Here is a sample of the worst offender.
- again on 4k HDR/DV videos, if they are actually playing well to start with, and I pause for whatever reason and let the Apple TV go to screensaver and/or to sleep, the video will stutter when I resume. I have to force quit the app and then resume the video for smooth playback. This is 100% reproducible on my end. Also does not seem to be heat-related since the video plays fine initially and again after an app restart.
- occasionally over long periods I will also see some mild stuttering on lower resolution content, but it isn’t much. This is not easily reproducible, it seems to vary. Could be memory or heat related, who knows.
My setup: LG CX, aTV 4k 2022 directly connected, hardwired to router.
Just do it like rest of us, give up on Plex ever gettin this right and buy Infuse
Much better experience.
It’s not worth the misery waiting for miracle.
infuse is not a better experience, though. sure it reliably plays videos but the feature parity with plex is not there.
Don’t be discouraged by the few, I’m from the Beta testing group and stuttering with the Experimental player has come leaps and bounds. I rarely see it any more. I use it for all content now unlike previous players when 4K and some HEVC had to look elsewhere.
I too agree the Plex feature rich experience is far better than mentioned suggestion.
