I would like Plex to implement is a Video Thumbnail Picture/s feature. Please note this is NOT the existing: Enable video preview thumbnails
What I am referring to is the creation of an image with frames from the video. Incidentally Windows Media Player Classic has this function already built in e.g.
The Plex generated Thumbnail image could/would be displayed at the bottom of the movie record (on the page where image/actor/director are displayed per se).
e.g. (please don’t look at the style, it’s just to give the idea of course):
Thanks for your suggestion… although I’m not quite sure what you’re trying to achieve?
Is about showing the thumbs of the chapters in the video or just a random set of thumbs to visualize the timeline of a video?
Also… is there a particular use case or some kind of additional decoration/artwork?
What I’m trying to achieve is a look and feel of the video (movie) prior to the playback. You must have see this approach on “certain sites” e.g. torrent where few screenshots from the movies are displayed. In my opinion this gives a great idea on what the movie is about, sometime it’s an animation, other times it’s black and white, other times… else. I often myself start a movie to find out after a bit… that’s not what I feel like tonight. Hence the idea.Once again I appreciate the trailer idea but this has a lower footprint in terms of production and visualization.
In my mind this would not be linked to chapters. Say the user wants 6x2 pictures (so 12 in total) I would simply divide the video time in say 14 picking up 2-13 where you would expect to see something that is not introduction or trailing titles.
I’m not sure I fully understand your question on decoration/artwork, this would be ideally a background task that stores the thumbnail in the database (an option for the store in database Vs media-folder I suppose could be considered) as part of a periodic activity.
