Generating Video Chapter Thumbnails

Hi
I have query re Generating Video Chapter Thumbnails.
The other day my PMS Activity icon started spinning and showing that it was “Generating Video Chapter Thumbnails”
This created a lot of activity on my Synology server, but eventually stopped.
To the best of my knowledge this is the first time this has happened in over 4 years of using Plex.
In my PMS Settings, Generate Chapter Thumbnails is set “As A Scheduled Task”
In the Advanced Settings of My Films library the Enable Video Preview Thumbnails box is ticked and underneath there is a line that reads “Generate video preview thumbnails for items in this library when enabled in server settings.”

What should I do? – What are Video Chapter Thumbnails?

Should I leave it as it is – what is it doing if I do?

Should I change the PMS Setting to “Never”?

Should I disable/untick the Enable Video Preview Thumbnails box

Thanks in advance.
Jeff

This is two separate topics:

  1. Video Chapter Thumbnails are the pictures displayed in the chapter selection (1 picture picked from that chapter, so this is usually very few)
  2. Video Preview Thumbnails are a sequence of pictures used in the dashboard and the player progress bar during playback. This can take up a lot of storage as it’s basically 1 picture every few seconds of the entire video.

The chapter thumbs should be a non-issue: they’re fairly easy to create and take up little storage.
With the preview thumbnails, it’s up to your personal preference and setup (e.g. storage or performance constraints).
