It’s been a while since I used Plex on my phone (Galaxy S24+) but it never used to transcode files with HD audio. Now it does, even in the LAN.
If I change the audio track to say EAC3 5.1, it will direct play. Switch back to TrueHD and it transcodes.
I should add that I have the bandwidth to play these files remotely. My server has the upload speed set to 50Mbps but for some reason, they transcode now.
It’s not only the Plex player that’s new, my phone also recently updated to Android 15. I had a look through the settings (Dev options) but couldn’t see anything that’s changed.
I’ve been testing this and it’s only TrueHD, both 5.1 and 7.1, that is being transcoded. DTS-HD plays no problem.
I set up Jellyfin and it direct plays everything so it’s definitely a Plex issue.
