I did that, no change. I still am getting "the server is not powerful enough " message when I try to play a recorded program in the web player and my iPad. These functions were working just fine in a My Cloud Home that I just returned because one could not update the PMS unless WD did a firmware update. I "upgraded " to this Synology for its faster processor and real app support. I can still return it if it will not do the job. Please let me know,
Steve

I can see why it’s stopping… It has no hardware for the MPEG2 + closed captions.
Is there anything you have without closed captions?

Please play regular H.264 content so I can verify the hardware is engaging.
I am not sure what “regular H.264” is. The reason I got Plex is for recording Over The Air TV broadcasts and then watching them on my schedule and being able to bypass commercials. I am not sure, but I think that OTA broadcasts are MPEG2, right? I am using an HD Homerun Quattro tuner. This whole issue of transcoding, as I understand it, is the act of converting files from one format to another. Like MPEG2 to H.264, right? As far as I know, no transcoding is required when the file that has been recorded is in the same format as the application that will be playing it requires. That being the case, I do not know of any files that I have that would be H.264. I think that transcoding would be required to play OTA broadcast TV through Plex on my iPad, Correct?
I am not trying to be obtuse, I just do not know how to carry out your request.
I still do not know how to perform the test. What is an example of an H.264 file? Can I produce one on my iPad? I really do not care (much) about live TV. I used it as the easiest example of determining if my plex was set up correctly. What I DO care about is the fact that I can not do anything from my iPad. (see previous screenshot) I suspect that I have a setting that is incorrect somewhere. I have not seen these symptoms elsewhere in the forum regarding Synology. If there is something in this particular NAS that will not let it work properly, I need to return it. But I would hate to do so if it is just because I did not configure it correctly.
Thanks for helping me through this, Steve
