Vinyl Record Ripping Tips

Hey all. I’m a huge fan of plex so far. Ripping my CDs/Films has been relatively smooth; same with television shows once I followed the naming formats.

I’m feeling a bit stuck however with my records. Even if I manually type in track titles, artists, and album in KID3, they often show up in plex all wonky. For example, I ripped my Run The Jewels - RTJ4 and it showed up as a different various artist album for each track, and even with manually updating metadata AND renaming various to the actual artist in plex, it’s showing each track as a different RTJ4 album instead of combining.

Does anyone have a definitive flow for handling metadata when you are the one ripping/recording the analog tracks to digital?

I’m recording, splitting the tracks in Pro Tools.

I would love if there was some sort of file I could drop in the folder which would help plex make sense of it easier.

Ensure that you are not using WAV. Plex cannot read metadata from WAV files. So all it can use are folder structure and file names, which might not be enough to identify the release – particularly if the folder structure is not following https://support.plex.tv/articles/200265296-adding-music-media-from-folders/
