Virtual Titles using Discover features to manage external owned VOD titles

For some time, I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to create a single place to catalog our ripped digital content (on our NAS) with owned titles on services like Vudu or Google Play. Plex has worked ok for this, as I’ve created a short “dummy” clip that I duplicate on the NAS with the movie/show name each time we buy something on Vudu, for example. This makes our library on Plex all inclusive, but I need to remember which service or app to switch to in order to watch content like this.

The Discover feed is a great new feature that can even open a title on the desired app. I would like to request a feature where we could create a list of movies or shows that we own and mark the target service to click through to the title on the desired service. A few ideas for this could be (these may be versions of the same thing):

  • Create a Discover category for owned content or somehow show watchlist titles along with Plex Media Server content. I think differentiating owned content only via a different tag or category would probably be desired.
  • Allow “virtual” titles to be added to the Plex media library, specifying or using the preferred streaming services (a la Discover). Then we could click through to the title.
  • Show preferred streaming services (a la Discover) as a row on existing Plex library titles. This way the “dummy” clips mentioned above could click through to the correct service.

Anyway, just an idea from a happy user. Thanks for the great work!

There’s already two existing feature suggestion threads discussing such options. I suggest you comment/vote in those threads in order to avoid distracting/dispersing votes.

Unless you point out some unique element of your suggestion that I’ve been missing, I’ll close this thread as a duplicate.

Thanks! It does look like the second thread is very similar. I did spend a few minutes trying to find a similar idea, but not long enough. I will vote on that one. Have a good weekend!
