given that you can link into the tv app on iOS/Apple TV could I somehow be able to add movies I own there into discovery so that can be the default option to playback? The perfect solution would be to be able to integrate my iTunes owned movies into my library and have plex drop into the tv app when I play that movie.
There’s already an existing feature suggestion discussing an option to add movies you own on another service to Discover. I suggest you comment/vote in that thread in order to avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes.
