I own several movies with digital copies. I currently have a short placeholder video to show them in my movie library, and modified the description to show where to watch it. I would love a way to create a database, or something to link to the video service the way Discover works. I tried searching for one the I own digitally and it worked beautifully to play it. Thanks!
I am little confused, what do you want to do exactly here?
You can’t add something to Discover, as it’s just collection of metadata and you can use IMDb, TMDb, TVDb, etc. to add missing media.
Simply organize your placeholder videos as their own library (e.g. My Digital Copies
).
When you search, Plex will show the respective titles and point out that you can find it in your server → your account picture, server name and My Digital Copies
.
I would like to have a collection of movies that I own digital copies of and be able to click on the service I own it in within Plex. I would like it to be easy for my Luddite husband to find his movies.
Oh, I think I got you. You basically like to have all those movies into one place so that when you click any of them it shows info or takes to respective streaming service app (like Discover)?
If yes then yeah makes sense where users can create their own bucket/collection list which has streaming info integrated.
Things will iron out in future I believe since it’s Beta, but I think you can try this for now. Put all those movies as “Watchlist”, later access them from Home > Watchlist, now if you click any movie it will show the streaming provider info as you like it.
Yeah this would be great. I have a bunch of MoviesAnywhere movies, James Bond collection on Vudu, it would be nice to be able to show this as part of the library and open them directly within different services, etc…
please give us the ability to add Discover shows to the library and set default service for that show. This could give us the ability to create smart playlists.
I would like to add all of the “One Chicago”/9-1-1/CSI shows and episodes to smart playlists sorted by air date,
I think this is a great idea. There’s many movies or shows that I know I have access to on streaming platforms, but I still add a local version and take up space on my hard drives as I like everything in one library.
This would be a great way for users to save space on their drives and still have a full, universal library.
This is exactly what I’m after. It’d be great for additional season of shows you already have in plex too. If you had season 1-5 of a show on plex you could then add season 6+ to your library and see what streaming / purchase options you’ve got.
I am also hoping this feature is implemented.
It would be incredible if I could essentially create a library or watchlist for the 1400+ movies I have on Vudu and be able to launch Vudu straight from Plex into that movie.
I think this is a great idea as well.
Yes, please add. It would be fantastic to see my entire movie library in Plex even though some are stored on Vudu, AppleTV, Prime, etc.
I also own a bunch of movies and tv shows on streaming services (MoviesAnywhere, Apple, Amazon, Vudu, etc) and it would be awesome to be able for everything I own to be listed in Plex. I want to be able to add a movie/tv show to Plex from Discover and flag it as owned and what service I own it on. I want to be able to see these in my Libraries instead of just Discover. I would also like to be able to flag a movie as owned on DVD or Blu-ray if I don’t already have it on Plex or a streaming service.
Agreed. I have purchased movies on Itunes, Google, Vudu and Amazon and would love to list them in my Plex library. They don’t need to try to open and play the other service, but would nice to have it listed with the streaming service it’s on listed next to it, so it can be quickly found. Would be nice to then have the ability to filter by those streaming services so I can quickly see all the movies I have on a specific service, through Plex.
I can imagine some “simple” UI element next to a movie/episode/season, where you can mark the movie/episode/season as “bought on [xy-service]”.
Maybe this could get a bit tricky if you own many movies/episodes but it would be quite useful for those like me having some movies bought on “Service x”, some on “Service y” and again some others on “Service z”. If you are searching for movies in “Discover”, it could give you some hint like “Watch it on…” without any price tag, as you don’t need to pay for it anymore.
This would be a great add. I own a lot of movies in Amazon and Vudu and I’d like to add those movies to my Plex library from a library management perspective. Not to play from Plex itself, but to account for the content I own in a single location.
Potential workflow for a user:
- User Plex Search to find a movie you own
- In the “More ways to watch” section select the movie
- Have a button to “Add to Personal Library” or something like that
- Have the ability to build your personal library sources like Vudu, Amazon Video, Ultraviolet, Etc
With this we would be able to account for content we own in addition to content we have as video files on the Plex server itself.
I would love this, especially for family members. It seems most of the hard work is already done for the discover section .Right now to sort of implement this, I’ve added everything to my Watchlist. This gives my wife the ability to see what we have available, and if it’s available to play locally, or to stream it from a service. Then on Apple TV on some services it can even open the app and start streaming the movie directly. Only problem is, it removes it from the watchlist once watched. By adding them to the library they’ll always be there. Thanks!
1000%. If I’m in Discover>Amazon and click the 3 dots, have an option that says “Owned in service”. This adds to to my library with a small Amazon logo over the poster. That tells me “go to Amazon to watch.”
I would like this feature too. It would be ideal to be able to add movies/shows that I don’t physically have but have access to via my subscriptions added to my Collections/Playlists alone with the media I do own.
Thanks,
Chuck
