Virus scanner isolating Plex Media Server.exe v1.2.3.2914 as Virus...

Just tried to do the most recent Plex Server update and AVG isolated the exe with the following info:

“IDP.Virus.6E0A8130, C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\Plex Media Server.exe”;“Secured”;“25/10/2016, 12:09:58 PM”;“File or Directory”;""

Had to go into AVG and release it from the Virus vault, plus add a file exception in order to get Plex to start again.

First knew something was wrong when the automatic install just stopped. Then tried a manual repair with a new install file. Then a complete uninstall/reinstall. Finally, an AVG notification let me in on what it was doing. Thanks to the Plex Server architecture, the library came back just as I left it.

Version 1.2.3 has a new certificate and some security products may be over zealous with certificates that have not had much exposure yet.

But to be doubly sure - could you zip the exe and upload the zip on dropbox or like service and send me link to it and I will check the content - just in case there is some infection in your machine

I am having the same issue. Am I supposed to send something to somebody? Will this get fixed and when will we know if it gets fixed?

AVG appear to be trusting the new certificate now - so there is no need for this amendment to the AVG Settings anymore

instructions on how to whitelist Plex Media Server binaries within AVG

  1. Open AVG and click on Options and select Virus Vault in the drop down.
  2. Select the quarantined Plex Media Server binary / binaries and any associated registry entries - they would all have the same date and time for the quarantine action and click on Restore. At the end, Close the window when the action is completed.
  3. Then select Options again and Advanced Settings from dropdown and select Exceptions and Add exception and select Exception Type Folder
  4. Then click on Browse and drill down to this path C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server and with Plex Media Server folder selected, and ensuring all options ticked - including Identity Protection, Click Apply
  5. Then you will see the folder added as an exception. You should be able now to start Plex Media Server
