Vizio Plex client ends 4K movies after a few minutes, marks as watched

Having this problem for a couple of weeks now…

4K movie files (UHD Blu-rays remuxed to .mkv) end after a few minutes of playing. The files end at the same time each time the file is played. This time is unique to each file and not the same among all files. The files play flawlessly on other clients (web and Roku). This problem is unique to 4K; 1080p files have exhibited no issues. The files in question have previous played via this client without issue.

I have looked through the logs, and (I’m no expert…) have not noticed anything of note; no errors noted. I have found a few others online who have had this same issue, but no solutions. Anyone care to shine light on the issue?

Started play at 16:11:00… and failure happened at about 30 seconds.

The TV is a Vizio P75QX-H1 with 5.511.9.3-1 firmware (which is current).

I Have been having the same issue since the last big firmware update. I can’t believe no one else is complaining about this issue. Smaller 4k files with lower bit rates will play. This leads me to believe the issue is in with the latest internet connection firmware as it can no longer handle the faster bit rates.

I wish I had a solution for you, but more information is all I can offer. Here is a post describing in more detail what else I recently found… but short of it is that the TV client is not reading the file duration properly and reporting the file as finished playing. I have found no information on the console error which it generates.

If I find a solution, I will post it here…

I’m having the same issue and I know its a firmware update problem because I recently purchased a Vizio M65Q6-J09 tv and out of the box plex worked great. I could direct play any 4K file with no buffering, stuttering or sound issues. As soon as the firmware update downloaded all sorts of issues started with high bitrate 4K movies abruptly ending, stuttering and buffering. I also am experiencing weird audio issues where it can no longer transcode truehd dts audio. This isn’t a network issue either since I have gig internet speeds and tested both netflix 4k streams and high bitrate hdr youtube videos to make sure. Look into this issue with the vizio Plex app and fix immediately.

The audio issue is exactly the same as described here in this post. Before whatever crappy firmware update was forced upon me I did not have these audio issues with dolby truehd and dts hd

Stop ignoring this issue and fix it!! 4k HDR Movies on the Plex Vizio app end abruptly after a minute or so of playback. Plex marks the movie as watched and moves onto next movie. I do not have this issue with any other app but Vizio’s. Fix this!
