Hello, I’m not sure if I am doing something wrong, but no matter what file format (srt, ass, vtt) I save my subtitle in the Vizio Smart TV app will still have my server burn them in. I have subtitle burn-in set to never on my Vizio player but it doesn’t change anything. Is there something I need to do to have my server pass the subtitles instead of burning them in?
Thanks for any help!
I have a Vizio TV too. I think that’s just how Plex works - “burning” in the subtitle. I’ve had no problems using it although some subtitles are just “off” from the video but I believe that’s a problem with the subtitle file itself.
When im playing from chrome it’s able to direct stream without transcoding, is this just not possible for smart tv apps?
Something is wrong with plex and smart tvs… you’re not the only one having issues with them, there are posts complaining of issues with LG/Samsung/Sony smart tvs and external subs having errors.
On Vizio, if the item you’re playing needs to be transcoded for any reason, then the subtitles will need to be burned. That includes direct streaming. In other words, if subtitles are disabled and the item doesn’t direct play, they will be burned when enabled.
An example where you could have subtitles not burn is if you had an MKV with x264 and AAC and SRT subs.
Other TVs may not have this limitation, but may have other limitations. They’re all different regarding playback.
