Any update on this? Specifically for Vizio TVs? And assuming it will work and is being developed for vizio tvs, is this something Plex has to submit to vizio for them to add to a firmware update, or will it just update itself (webapp based?)
I don’t have anything specific to share at this time. If/When an update is available, yes it will need to go through Vizio. The app will just auto-update. I don’t know if a firmware update would be required to run the new app, but that is possible. Won’t know until it’s ready to be released.
So it sounds like at least it is being worked on? Vizio just released a firmware update this week, so even if plex submitted something to vizio today that required a firmware update to install, its probably a good 3-6 months before the consumer would see it. Sounds like I am getting another Mi Box S…

I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure SmartCast apps are basically just HTML5 apps so they can probably be created and updates pretty easily, I doubt they require a full firmware update
thats what i was hoping…but it has been so long since live tv has been added to plex, i would think the vizio app would have been updated at least once since then.
I’d like to add my voice to this. I’m using Plex primarily because my Vizio TV has the app. I’ve also been paying for the Plex subscription to have access to the additional features. I need those features, like live TV, to be available in the Vizio app or I will be cancelling my subscription.
I’m going to throw my hat in the ring here as well. I have purchased a Plex Pass Lifetime and a HD Homerun Extend. I just got rid of cable and all set to watch Live TV on my Vizio, but unfortunately can’t. I’m sure that there are a lot of Vizio owners out there in the same boat.
Put me down as another user desperately awaiting more info here. I chose Vizio over Samsung and LG for less ads, but I didn’t realize the Plex experience was so far outdated. Patiently awaiting an update or at least more information about the plans so I know if I need to buy another device
I am yet another Vizio owner that purchased the lifetime pass so I could watch live TV. A little bummed to learn the Vizio does not yet support it.

I did request the same some time ago Live TV on Vizio the Plex employee response made me cancel my subscription.

Airplay 2 =/= Plex’s SmartCast app… Your point?
The point is the Vizio tv can handle it. Airplay or cast. The restriction is with Plex.
Any update on the Plex for Vizio app update? They (plex) recently rolled out the UNO experience for Roku samsung and lg, are we getting UNO on Vizio smartcast?
The app is ridiculously bland and outdated. It needs to be updated ASAP.

For regular HD TV’s it is unlikely these will be updated. 4K versions may eventually get the update, but I have no idea if or when.
