Vizio Tv causing Plex Server to Crash

Server Version#:1.18.6.2368-97add474d
Player Version#:

I’ve recently began experiencing an issue where anytime my Vizio Smart tv (Up to date on firmware) causes my plex server to crash. The plex server allows the media to stream without problems on other devices; However, as soon as this device attempts to query the plex library everything disconnects and the server has to be restarted. Is/has anyone else experienced this and is there a solution?

What OS is your Plex Server installed on?

Windows 10
version 1909
OS Build: 18363.657

I’m having the same problem on my Vizio 55" TV. Every time I try to access Plex my server crashes.

I also have been having the same issue for a few days. Both of my Vizio TVs will cause the server to crash. Anything else (RasPlex, my PCs) does not.

Same version of Plex Media Server as JimmyG. Also on Win 10.

Looked at two dump files and they show an invalid pointer read.

Same thing is happening to me. Vizio P652ui-B2 4k.

Plex is up to date running on Windows 7 (same version as JimmyG)

Plex starts to load on the TV. Then the TV shows a “Network disconnected” error. At that same moment the Plex server crashes.

Same issue with Vizio and Plex
Vizio TV model M602i-B3
Plex server installed in FreeBSD jail
Plex Media Server v1.18.6.2368-97add474d - FreeBSD PC amd64 - build: freebsd-x86_64 freebsd
FreeBSD version: 11.3-RELEASE-p5, language: en-US

I tried fresh install in new jails two times already and behavior is the same
Tried newer PlexMediaServer-1.18.7.2415-9930aef45-FreeBSD-amd64 as well – still the same

I was having this issue along with the network disconnected error one that came immediately before PMS shutting down. I uninstalled the newest version and switched back to an older one PlexMediaServer-1.18.1.1973-0f4abfbcc-x86 and it doesn’t give me that error or shutdown anymore. Everything works as it should.

Do you have a link to the location were you were able to download the previous version?

Same issue here on my Vizio M422i-B1. Very annoying.

Please see my response here: I did the latest update 1.18.6.2368 and now It crashes on remote login

Looks like the latest beta release may have the fix:

Confirmed. Changed server update channel to Beta, installed 1.18.7.2434, after installation my Vizio TVs can access Plex normally without crashing the server.

Rolling back to the previous version fixed it. Thanks for your input!

Glad that it worked for you as well. My advice is not to update until this error is fixed confirmed.

It was confirmed by a user two posts above yours, and announced by a Plex employee. Not sure what more you’re waiting for…
