VOBSUB incorrect position on Android players

I encoded some DVDs, and kept the VOBSUB track so that I could enable/disable subtitles. Its in an MKV container. The issue is that when I play them on one of the Android clients, either my phone or the Shield TV Pro 2019, the subtitle is positioned too low. If there’s only one line of text, its off the bottom of the screen, if there are two, the top line is on-screen where the second line should be, and the second line is still off-screen. Roku works fine, as do the Plex Windows client and VLC on Windows.

Android Shield TV version: 9.3.0.32977
Android Phone version: 9.3.0.32977
Plex server version: 1.26.2.5797 on Windows

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Yes.

Yes, it’s a well known issue. I really hope they will fix it soon…

They haven’t fixed any vobsub issues in 4+ years. Don’t hold your breath.

I think it’s a ExoPlayer bug rather than Plex, and that’s probably why it’s not fixed yet.

No, they have updated exoplayer multiple times over the years and no other Android player has that issue. It is only Plex and only on Android. They have had samples, verified the issue, but seem to have no interest in actually fixing it.
