In the past few weeks, possibly since the last client update, my Nvidia Shields have started often placing subtitles off the bottom of the screen. Single-row subtitles are invisible off the screen, and two-row subtitles only have the top row at the bottom of the screen. (The latter is why I know the subtitles are being shown at all.) When I play the same files on either a Roku device or the web interface, subtitles perform correctly. It’s only on the Shield that I get this behavior. I’ve tried messing with the subtitle settings on the player, overriding format, changing the size of subtitles, etc., but haven’t had any luck with that. Has anyone else run across this issue, or have advice on fixing it? Thanks!
Try clearing the app / cache and log back in, seeing if that fixes it?
Are these Vobsubs? Someone in the beta forum raised an issue about this and I was able to reproduce.
Yes, thanks! I have verified that it’s happening with VOBSUB subtitles and not others. I’ve chimed in over on that bug report thread, and can just monitor that one from here on out.
I’ve noticed this tonight, too. On my Fire Stick 4K.
I’m wondering if this is from the demuxer change. I might sideload back to 9.0.6 and see if things were still fine back then.
It could also be 8.31, since one of the fixes listed is “Player: ensure image subtitles are sized correctly on screen.”
My Android TV is still on 8.25.1 for unrelated issues, so I can check it tonight after I’m home from work and see what happens there.
Edit: Yup. In 8.25.1 the subtitles are in the right position.
