Voddler Plugin

I have finally removed the 200 movies per genre limit (all are fetched now) and gotten rid of the HTML in the movie synopsis

Sadly forward/backward is not working while in fullscreen (fairly important I’d say). It seem to trigger a doubleclick instead. It actually works in windowed mode though were Voddlers own menus become available. Might leave it to someone to take a look at that when I get it up on github.

I have also found a bug when starting movies. Sometimes it makes you request for a password reset  Voddler knows about this though and might actually do something about it in the near future

Here’s a test from my TV set with a different skin (using the Apple TV skin on that one):

Sweet! Come on, get it up then! :D I can't wait anylonger to try it out, hehe

Ask, and Ye Shall Receive!

To install, download one of the following:

.zip: https://github.com/monsharen/Plex-Voddler-Plugin/zipball/master

  • or -

    .tar.gz: https://github.com/monsharen/Plex-Voddler-Plugin/tarball/master

Unpack, and rename the resulting folder to voddler.bundle. It will probably change icon to a lego brick thingie

    Copy it

Go to your home folder -> Application Support -> Plex Media Server -> Plug-ins -> … paste it here!

Relaunch Plex (if it doesn’t work, try restarting the Plex media server too)

  • First thing you should do is to input your user details in the preferences, otherwise starting movies won’t work. (Should probably add a dialogue for this)

  • Remember, first time you launch a menu it might take some time to load.
  • (Probably) lots of bugs. I warned you! But feel free to report them
  • Live long and prosper

Awesome! :D I got i working instantly! I guess I'm your first beta-tester then ;)

We should I report bugs? here on the thread or on github?

One issue I'm having and that might not be caused by the plugin itself, is that the movie plays on the primary screen and not the screen on which I have plex (the TV). I am guessing that it has to do with how voddlers player work.

Awesome, movie started playing.

Dont know why, but I couldnt type in @ sign in the username preferences, also I couldn’t access the ‘virtual keyboard’ at all, the text line kept focus no matter what I did (no mouse). Got my username in by editing com.plexapp.plugins.voddler.xml - after that, haven’t found any problems, looks great. Now I can actually start to use voddler, been registered with voddler since Feb 2010 but only watched a few films, that is likely to change now

I have the @ issue too and I am starting to believe it has to do with Swedish vs English keyboard layouts. I enabled the mouse to do it. Glad you found a way to get it sorted! Maybe we should forward this to the Plex team

Please report them here for now. If it becomes overwhelming we'll take it elsewhere.

Yes, I believe the flash player tries to resize itself to fullscreen (Mainly for commercials). Tricky.

Very glad to hear it works in the real world too though! Thanks for testing it out!

No problem! Thanks for working on this! :D

When I start a movie from Voddler's webpage, the fullscreen is on the same screen as the site.
Hence, I think the main-problem is that the plugin site "lives" in the primary screen.

...I noticed that the site is on the primary screen because when I need to resume a movie from the plugin, and i press enter on my apple remote I get a black window on my primary screen and I can't do anything to close it except log out :P
So that's a bug - I can't choose to resume a movie.

An easy but "ugly" solution is to exit fullscreen when the commercials are finished and make the menu-bars disappear (sometimes they do, sometimes they don't).
Another is if we could configure the site so that it is created on the same screen as Plex. And I don't think there's an option for that at the moment.

The BEST solution is if Voddler adds an option for which display to pop up fullscreen on. It could be auto=the same screen as the site, or a specific display. I think this is something they MUST implement anyhow, since it is pretty annoying that one needs to move the browser to the other display to view the movie there.

Hi, I just installed the Voddler Plugin, the thing that worries me is that only 5-minutes after I installed got a mail from Voddler about "Reset password request"...

Any thoughts about that?

/Erik

Hello Erik,

Yes, it’s sadly a known bug with the “old”/current way of starting movies. Sometimes the scripted clicks seem to end up clicking on the password reset link (though it does not actually reset the password unless you proceed with the email instructions). It is on the todo and will hopefully work a lot better in the future. I know Voddler have been looking into alternative ways of starting movies for third party apps but I don’t think they’ve released anything yet. I was kind of planning to idle until that happen, but maybe it’s time to pull out the wizard hat again.

Cheers for testing and reporting

Last week I changed the way the plugin starts movies by utilizing a brand new player api provided by Voddler. It solves the “reset password” bug and is overall a better way to do things and have simplified the start script a lot.

I plan to commit this change to github but will probably not be able to do much more since I moved to London last weekend (Voddler is not available here yet). I know others have an interest in the plugin and might be able to pick up where I left but see this as a general call for help.

Help.

Missing at the moment is the play/pause and forward/backwards functionality. Feel free to do whatever you like with the code (like adding IMDB rating/sorting support and be able to view your Voddler play lists would be cool)!

Cheers everyone and thanks for your support so far!

As previously stated the github update might come later this week whenever I get the time to actually do it.

Oh, if you have any questions about the api:s or the code, don’t hesitate to ask. I will gladly help out if I can.

How is the push up to github going? Really curious about this plugin! =)

I’ll see if I can squeeze it in tonight

No push yet?

No push to github but I have sent the code to another developer who have picked up where I left (still having some issues with my new place). I heard he was making nice progress a few days ago and was working on the play/pause states.

Awesome! Would be great if it got officially supported by Voddler, so we could ensure some stability.

Hi, I’m one of the Voddler reps that are playing around with the plugin.

We are trying to sort through the bugs and get some priority to get a beta release soon, hopefully with better support from our side.

So, a little update from our side.

We are quite close in a release, there is full playback on “Play” titles (movies, documentaries, series) and trailers. You can also access your playlists and modify them. Initial support is added for renting movies with tickets, but no playback added on rental titles (yet).

The only real big thing missing is a proper working seek bar, and that will hopefully be fixed soon.

Awesome, looking forward to it!

There. The plugin is now updated and I’m looking forward to some testers

You can find information regarding the plugin and a very simple how to install here: GitHub - drohr/plex-voddler-plugin: Plex Plugin for the Voddler movie service

Super glad to hear this! Great work. Downloading as I type

Yep it is working really well for me. Champagne moment. Really like the playlist feature.

The (expected) “issues” I had was that I needed to update the Voddler client software. The download button was displayed inside plex but it was unclickable so I had to go to the website for that. The error message for being in a non supported country was a bit unclear (“unexpected token”) but should be solved by region handling in the app store.
