Hello,
I hope I have this topic in the correct place. I tell ya, Plex ... Your forums are not very friendly to blind users using a screen reader and now it seems as though you've dropped it from the Fire TV app as well. My server is on Windows and is updated to the latest version, and I have three Fire TV Sticks and a Toshiba Fire TV Edition TV, which all apps are up-to-date also.
What has happened to accessibility via VoiceView in the Fire TV app? VoiceView still announces the Library names, and still works inside of settings for the most part. However, when I enter a library it has quit speaking the title that the cursor is on, except in the TV Shows library, which it now only announces the number of episodes but not the name of the series. If it's important, this is happening on all of my Fire TV sticks and my Toshiba Fire TV Edition as well.
I started using Plex because it had the best accessibility support for a blind user. I hate to think that is gone now.
Thanks for the report. I don’t know if we specifically check for VoiceView support. It just sort of works. I was able to recreate your issue. I will let the team know.
Yep I am not unable to use plex either. Not user friendly at all. Am thinking about looking for another option to enjoy my media if these issues can’t be resolved.
Same problem here. Plex has always had accessibility problems when it comes to using a screen reader. I suspect their just aren’t enough blind people using Plex who have complained about it. I came on the forms to post about the same problem, but seems you have already covered the problems with VoiceView in the Fire TV app. It might be worth noting that while not at all ideal and a slow workaround for the problem, you are able to find the name of the title within a library using VoiceView by clicking and opening each one individually. For me however, I’m just using the app on my phone until these issues have been resolved. hopefully plex will start considering accessibility more during the testing and development. Not having accessibility support is definitely a big problem.
Thanks for chiming in. I am aware of the work around you mention, and thanks for including it, but we shouldn’t have to do that. What a pain in the ass to have to do… Hopefully the developers will listen to our concerns. Hell, at this point, if nothing else I’d be happy with being able to roll back the software to where it was accessible and then turn updating off, but you can’t even do that. Or if you can, I’ve not found where to do that.
Here here. I couldn't agree more. I would imagine that any of us needing accessibility would be more than happy to assist in any manner we could. I know I would.
I do find it disturbing and less than encouraging that the Plex team has been completely silent on this thread other than the original reply saying that it would be reported to the team. It doesn't give me a fuzzy feeling for sure. No reply saying it has been reported, no request for more information and nothing said about attempts are being made to fix the issue. Makes me think that we are not at all important to the developers. Heck at this point I'd settle for a way to roll back the software to a version that was accessible.
I do not have any additional information to add at this time, but the team is aware of the issue. Unfortunately, due to the holidays, it may be a little while before a fix is available.
