VPN site to site - QNAP NAS on main site LG tv on remote site not working

Server Version#:1.25.1.5286-34f965be8
Player Version#:5.29.1

Hello,
i have site to site vpn between two remote sites.
On the mian site i have the qnapnas running plex server 1.25.1.5286-34f965be8 and an LG TV running 5.28.2 and in the local network all work fine.
I adeed a remote site with an ipsec VPN, site to site VPN on two different 192.168.x.0 /24 subnets and the firewalla llows traffic between subets (i use it to trasnfer files).
VPN looks working fine in terms of performances and stability but the LG tv on the remote site running 5.29.1 cant connect to the server.
The wired thing is that i see traffic going back and forth between the lg tv and the plex server on port 32400 but the TV always says that cant reach the server.
Any Idea?
Best regards

Broadcast packets don’t cross subnet boundaries.

Is it possible to set up the subnets such that you can make the LG see it as a /23 ?
(192.168.0.x and 192.168.1.x are contained within a single /23)

Dear ChuckPa,
many thanks for your answer.
The subnets are 192.168.61.0/24 for the master site and 192.168.65.0/24 for the secondary site.
It would not be possible to use 192.168.62.0/24 on the secondary site where the lg tv is because that subnet is already in use in another secondary site.
Do you have another possible solution or test ?
Best regards

Would it be possible to set the 64 for the primary?

64 → 65 is a 1 bit change

Dear ChuckPa,

that is not really easy at the moment.

these two sites have lots of devices conctes and changng the ip tange in one of them may be pretty time consuming.

i will do it if there is no other solution but i was wondering if another solution would be possible before going for the ip change in an entire site.

Best regards

Drats.

There was always that off-chance you had a DHCP reservation table where you could do it in the router then renew all the leases in one shot.

i see… well many devices have static IPs, this is why is time consuming…
But if i have no other choice i will do that.
Just for information i use mikrotik routers for the site to site IPSEC VPN.
i dont know if there is any specific setting for this routers to have a look at…

Any other idea than changing ip ranges?

@vannimb

I use wireguard here for VPN.

It maps the LAN range from the other side to an address block on this side.

By doing that,

  • the other side maintains all its current addresses
  • the local address map point controls how they appear on this LAN.
  • Now I can expand my local subnet width from a /24 to a /23 if I need that may hosts.

@vannimb Do you have a different device on the remote site to test if plex itself is working through the VPN and so it is a problem with the LG TV? I also have an issue with my LG Tv where it cannot connect to my server securely, but any other client can do so… The root cause is a missing root certificate…

Dear @Mitzsch i have installed the plex client on a windows machine in the secondary site and i can reach the nas no problem first shot.

what else should i try?

Dear @Mitzsch you pointed me the right way. i had to disable secure connections on the TV settings and server settings and it all started working.
When i enable secure connections teh TV on the remote site does not manage to connect to the server anylonger.
Any idea why this happens?
Best regards

The reason is the missing root certificate on your TV, but this is nothing you can change easily. LG is already working on an update.
Have a look here Important information about Plex for smart TVs after September 30, 2021
and LG WEBOS 3.5 All remote play stop working

Dear @Mitzsch ,
taht is exactly my problem and the article well describes the solution!
many thanks
best regards
