There are still many advanced users out there that run a VPN which breaks the Remote Access features.
I believe this is due to the way PMS detects the IP address and registers this as the known IP with the Plex Cloud.
This then means that traffic exits over the VPN but Plex cloud then talks back to the IP given by the ISP, not the VPN IP.
A method for setting fixed Routes within Windows sometimes works, whereby all traffic bypasses the VPN. This however doesn’t always work, depending on the VPN provider.
One possible way to fix this would be to bind Plex to a network adaptor (ie LAN Ether NIC versus the VPN NIC)
Another could be to have an option in the Plex cloud account that directs the Plex Cloud to a different IP (be it a static IP) or to a Dynamic DNS address, which would override the way the Plex Media Server looks up it’s IP addresses.
