VPN ByPass - SOLUTION - maybe

Server Version#: 1.21.1.3830
Player Version#: 4.47.3
CyberGhost VPN - always running.

There are so many posts on this topic I can’t read them all for solutions. I have found a simple solution that works for me. I have a simple desktop system with a USB WiFi adapter. That’s it. May work for other configurations? Forgot, there is also the virtual adapter for the VPN!

If I set Plex, under Network settings, to use “any adapter” for client connections my remote access works fine, so far. Under Remote Access it says it isn’t available but it is. My network and security experience is minimal but I’m just assuming there is no risk in doing this. Any feedback?

I tried the VPN ByPass tool mentioned in some of these posts but it was not stable at all. Worked sometimes, then would stop.

I also played around with the routing table and could get Plex remote to work also. The only problem with this solution is if you reboot. The routes I entered were the IP equivalents for; “my.plexapp.com”, “plexapp.com” and “app.plex.tv”. Using the routing table you can route Plex traffic away from the VPN “gateway”.

I see that when Plex loads it already enters a route for your Plex “public IP”. My question to Plex developers is, can you not somehow put route entries for all the other required routes? Can’t remember which sites use rotating IPs (server farms) but that is why you can’t just use persistent routes. Maybe even a simple batch file could could capture the current IPs for those site names and add the routes to use the NON VPN gateway (router). My coding experience, including batch files, is very poor but I might try this. I’m sure it could be done.

Any comments?

Thanks
