Watch later not working anymore

Hi

I’ve been using the web browser PlexIt plug-in for a couple of weeks with no problems. However in the last 2 days or so none of the videos (99% YouTube) that I try add to my ‘Watch Later’ queue are showing up anymore. The web browser PlexIt plug-in reports success in adding the video but none of the videos show up in the ‘Watch Later’ queue when I check via both the web browser app or PMP.

I then tried using the email option and that also failed to add the video to the Watch Later queue.

Is there a known issue with PlexIt and the Watch Later feature? I did a search here on the forum and didn’t see any issues reported that are similar to my issue.

Thanks

Can you provide a link to a video that isn’t working? I’ve got a couple of videos from you tube that works fine for me.

If no Watch Later/Queue videos are showing up, have you signed in to your Plex account on Plex Web (browser) or PMP?

You must be signed in to your Plex account to see your Watch Later/Queue, since it is part of your Plex account. Also make sure you are logged into the same Plex account you used when you "PlexIt"ed those videos.

If some of your Watch Later/Queue videos are showing up but not the new ones, do you have only the “Watched” items chosen?

Some Plex player apps give you the option to only view some of your Watch Later videos. There are three options: Watched, Unwatched, or All. If you have it set to only show Watched, it will not show the new videos you have added. Try choosing the “All” or “Unwatched” option.

In Plex Web (from a browser), when you choose Watch Later, in the upper right-hand corner you will see the three options and each one shows the number of videos that are in that option/category.

Here is one - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckpwSAv5we8

Although I’m not sure that it’s video specific, over the previous couple of weeks I’d added 19 videos all from YouTube without any issues.

I am logged into my one and only Plex account, both when I use PlexIt (you get an error if you’re not logged in) and when using the web interface and PMP.

Also I can see the three categories of All, Unwatched and Watched in the web interface and there is no change in the numbers when adding a new video using PlexIt, and toggling between them doesn’t show the new video I’ve just added. The PlexIt interface in the browser comes back with a green tick to indicate success in adding the video to the queue, but as I mentioned in the last week or two these videos never appear in my ‘Watch Later’ queue whereas they used to.

I haven’t looked at the PlexIt JavaScript yet, does it send off the video URL info to Plex’s servers and then my Plex Media Server is supposed to periodically ping Plex’s servers to find out about it? Or does the PlexIt JavaScript try to communicate directly with my Plex Media Server?

As I mentioned the PlexIt JavaScript does come up with a green tick indicating it has successfully added the video to the Watch Later queue. In my case my Plex Media Server and the PC that I’m using to add the videos using PlexIt are both on the same local LAN.

I am also unable to add that video. However, I tried picking 5 other videos listed on the side, and all of them added without any issues. So it might be video specific. I’m not familiar with the actual code to know what it does exactly, but I have seen cases where it will indicate a success even though the video was not actually added.

YouTube has changed something recently. When I added videos to “Watch later” and played them later they would always direct play. However recently, at least since the start of the NWSL season, YouTube videos would only play transcoded.

I do not know if that is related to what is described here but changes to streams/formats could have some effect on the way the videos get handled.

Of course that does not actually help anyone get the “Watch Later” videos to correctly appear or stream but it is, maybe, another piece of the puzzle.

On which Plex client(s) is this?

Roku. On my Pi with PMP I get varied results. On the Pi sometimes I get “server not responding” even though it is running fine. Other times the video plays fine and everything seems to work but I cannot pull up any “stream info” and sometimes the playback just exits.

It is of note that every YouTube video I have tried require transcoding on my Roku but, if I download them and the play them in Plex they direct play.
