I think the latest server version broke watch later, again.
seems to be working on myxbobx but not in the web client
It think it is a transcoding issue with PMS and YouTube.
I have found that all YouTube videos now must be transcoded on Plex Web for Chrome and fail. The Roku has had to transcode some YouTube videos for awhile now (YouTube changed the format requirements awhile back and so some are no longer compatible with the Roku), but they would transcode until recently. But now it seems Plex Web for Chrome is transcoding all YouTube videos and failing and the Roku is sending some YouTube videos to be transcoded and those fail too. And these videos play fine on iOS, but I am assuming that the iOS app can direct play them.
The Plex Web app seems to play Watch Later videos for PBS and Vimeo without any issues, so it is not an issue with WatchLater, it appears to be an issue specific to PMS transcoding YouTube videos.
BTW, I can only speak to the transcoding issues for PMS on Windows v1.5 since that is the OS I use.
EDIT: Upgraded to 1.5.2 and receiving the same transcoding errors with YouTube videos.
So where to we actually log bugs/regressions so they can be fixed?
Same playback issues here on Roku but ALSO with Vimeo, not just YouTube. AND I can’t get them to play in Firefox (but they work in Chrome).

I have posted a new thread about this in the Windows section, since I am using PMS on Windows and PMS is having issues transcoding the videos, though there has been no response yet - forums.plex.tv/discussion/265898/plex-media-server-unable-to-transcode-youtube-videos#latest
Also, understand that, though it is true that you do not need a local Plex Media Server running to access and play Watch Later videos, if that Watch Later video is not compatible with your Plex player/device and cannot be direct played, then your Plex Player app will request that the video be transcoded. And any transcoding request for Watch Later videos requires a local Plex Media Server that can handle transcoding.
Since the codec support of every Plex player/device is different and none can support every format that may be available on the Internet, you need to have a local Plex Media Server running that can handle transcoding or any Watch Later videos that cannot direct play on that Plex player/device will fail.
Just to follow up - I resolved my issue. Basically, after reviewing the server logs I came across a repeated entry about not resolving *.plex.tv. I changed my DNS servers from opendns to google dns & everything works again.
Hasnt fixed it for me.
Can you confirm your…
ServerOS
PMS Version
Client/Version
Also doesn’t work for me. It does work on the server, but not on the Home Media Player. I get the error about the “media server not responding”.
I see that this is marked as “answered”…
Can someone explain how this has been answered?
Acknowledged as a bug and logged in the internal bug tracker. Not a lot else anyone can do other than bump this every time there is an update that doesnt fix it.
Just to update. This issues is resolved for me with PMS v1.5.6 for Windows.
EDIT:
The transcoding issue that was occurring with YouTube Watch Later videos on PMS for Windows is fixed in PMS v1.5.6 for Windows and later. I know this because these videos now work on the Plex app for Roku which must transcode some YouTube videos.
But the Plex Web app (tried v3.2.1, v3.4.1 and 3.6) is still unable to play YouTube videos. Plex Web does not fail it just sits there loading forever.
Since this appears to now just be a Plex Web app issue (at least for me), I have started a thread in the Plex Web app section of the forum at forums.plex.tv/discussion/272005/unable-to-play-watch-later-youtube-videos-on-plex-web
