When I watch a common show or movie with a friend (UserX), on the TV in my living room, I would typically sign in to my Plex user and we would sit and watch together. Afterwards, UserX would have to go through their Plex app and mark each title as Watched for their account. If we were watching in different locations using the Watch Together feature, this would not be an issue, but because we happen to be able to meet up in person, one of use guests saddled with the added task of marking everything we watched together as Watched on their account.
Dream scenario:
- Step 1) I send a UserX a Watch Together invite
- Step 2a) UserX has the option to join remotely as normal and begin simultaneous playback on their separate device
OR - Step 2b) UserX has the option to “Join in Person” (ideally, I picture a checkbox labeled “But, like, together together…”), which would begin playback on my TV and continue to sync watched status for the title across both our accounts, but which wouldn’t require UserX to actually have the title running on another player while we’re sitting together.
That way if we’re interrupted and have to continue watching separately we still could easily, where we would normally just have been watching on one of our accounts with the assumption we would be completing the title together during that session, leaving the other person to have to scan through the title to find the place they left off.
