Watch together going away in app

I paid with Apple Pay, Apple Pay will suspend your Apple Pay if the company disputes -_- My husband had to address this with Duolingo. I’m just saying, if he did it a year ago, I don’t know if I could ethically do a chargeback (especially when they quote their legal article). Especially if I’m not yet ready to wind down my server. They could suspend your Plex account

Same reply, except now they’ve added the forum from the link I sent them  Well, at least they know it exists!

I don’t think they care. I’m glad you got your refund though!

When I got this email about Watch Together not coming to the new experience, it led me to a feeling of why bother continue testing the new experience?

I hit an issue with the latest build on iOS and AppleTV I was going to report, but now I feel that time is better invested in looking into alternative solutions before the new experience is forced out the door later this year stripping me of a feature I make use of 3-4 times a week.

Leaving it only in the web client is not useful for me unfortunately, the iOS and AppleTV apps are central in this household. For the Plex employees, I hope this is reconsidered, but the fact that this email was sent is sadly likely a hint this decision is not one likely to be undone.

I’m just chiming in to what everyone else has already stated, in hopes that overwhelming numbers might make a difference, however unlikely. I will say that great new features face an uphill battle for people to like them when they come at the cost of beloved features going away. Companies keep doing this, where they take something that works perfectly well and people like and they revamp it to make it “new and better” but all they do is annoy all their actual paying customers who liked it just fine the way it was. If the new version was to fix something that everyone is complaining about then that’s one thing, but I don’t get the feeling that’s the case here. I sure hope they listen to the outcry and get Watch Together into their new toy as quickly as possible.

Me as well.

Someone at Plex should look at the amount of first-time posters on these posts compared to the average if they want an accurate measure of how important this feature is to users  Imagine how many people haven’t seen the Plex email either

“Isn’t practical”

As a software dev I predict that what that really means is they didn’t properly or didn’t want to properly incorporate necessary hooks into the playback such that it could be controlled in the way necessary for watch together. It could also be that they are getting some pressure from partners since watch together strongly suggests people sharing media.

If Watch Together is removed, I’ll be migrating everything to another service and demanding some sort of refund. I only just paid for Lifetime subscription a couple months ago.

My girlfriend lives on the other side of the planet and we watch movies together almost every other day, it keeps us connected whilst apart. Would be such a shame to remove this feature. Please consider improving it instead of removing it.

Probably, but I’m just sharing family videos @trapexit! :innocent:

I would request the refund now, and buy it back later if they listen. Per the email I got, they are only refunding recent transactions:

Watch Together is a free feature and is not related to Plex Pass subscriptions. Generally speaking, Plex Pass transactions are nonrefundable, per our “Subscriptions” terms (https://www.plex.tv/about/privacy-legal/subscriptions-and-rentals/), to which you agreed. In cases where a Plex Pass subscription was purchased very recently (e.g. within the last couple of days), we can often make a special exception to cancel and refund a purchase.

I use Watch Together almost every evening to enjoy movies and TV shows with a group of five friends scattered across the continent. I’m extremely disappointed with this news, and am now regretting my decision to purchase a lifetime Plex Pass.

I took at look into Jellyfin last night and it sucks…I may just have my friends go back to the ole’ “3…2…1…” method…where we all queue up the same film and count down 3…2…1…and all hit play. LOL We were doing that years before Watch Together even came a thing…

This is sad. We use it in the same room. We have 2 tvs where one user has speakers and the other users has headphones. This way we can watch what we want yet when we want to watch a movie together or an episode we can use watch together. I also like to grab an episodes with a friend while on the road and the ability to chat with them on discord at the same time… Oh maybe we need a mobile verison with a chat function or add on for discord…

Just curious what you think sucks about JF? True, setup of certain aspects can be a lot more manual, but for me at least, it does seem faster - especially the web interface.

If we take them at face value, it means they’re incompetent. While redesigning the clients, they forgot about the watch together feature and they’re so far along they’d have to make significant changes that they don’t want to do.

But I think it’s equally plausible that they’re lying and there are other motives behind it.

The wordage seems cryptic to me…almost like it will still be available in the current apps…until they are updated? And just what the hell is the “New Plex Experience”? A whole new replacement app for Plex, or something optional? I am full of questions…

I would like to add my voice to the chorus of people objecting to this decision. I love using Watch Together with my less technologically savvy friends. It is the primary reason I switched from Kodi to Plex as my media server. If this feature is removed I will almost certainly drop Plex. I bought a lifetime pass to support the project, but I now regret that decision.

An entirely new experience where our feedback doesn’t matter : https://www.plex.tv/blog/the-new-plex-experience/
