Never posted on these forums before, but just chiming in that I use this feature every single day. That’s the only reason I ended up upgrading to lifetime.
If this feature disappears, then I will never entrust or recommend Plex to anyone ever again. This is a very disappointing announcement.

I’ve also never posted on the forums before today, but feel compelled to joined the chorus of displeasure over this announcement and make certain my voice is heard as a (soon-to-be-former) paying Plex Pass customer.
What are they thinking with this?!

I e-mailed the CEO and told him Plex is losing a years-long paying customer over this. Have had my eye on Jellyfin for a while, and it seems now is the time!

I am so sad about this. I watch films with my boyfriend who lives in another country. This feature is so important to us. He has a lifetime plex pass.
I will accept the glitches, but we mustn’t lose watch together. Would be a big loss to customers. How is this good business??

My most use Plex feature is Watch together i use it frequently to watch movies with my cousin he lives far away from me if the feature disappear then i can just use something else.

what does this company even do? there are so many feature suggestions from users that could make this an A+ app, JUST SITTING AROUND FOR YEARS. the least they can do is not roll this back. wtf

You describe our love and tremendous response for Watch together and you then decide on scrapping it?
No, horrible idea to take it away.
If I didn’t have a lifetime pass this would make me cancel it.
75% of what I watch I watch with friends or the so.

Dumbest idea ever. I sent them an email saying as much. To their credit they replied promptly but it was nothing more than to parrot what the mass email already said.
- We definitely know that Watch Together is important
- Loved feature for a lot of people.
- The decision we made in our recent announcement was not an easy one to make
- New app is amazing
To elaborate a bit I explained how we use it as a family. Few family members live in other cities or at a distance and the watch together feature is one way we spend time together. Rotate through picking movies, chat about the movie while watching, etc. Family fun. Also traveling? Easy to spend time together when half way around the world.
Lastly while I am already a somewhat long time plex pass member I let them know that it may be a good time to look at other products that offer a similar platform. Jellyfin, Emby, Kodi, or other. Every product has warts but maybe there is a similar feature to ‘watch together’ that reshuffles the warts and gives us what we use the most.
Bit of a bummer. Maybe the developer who wrote the code is no longer there but I can’t imaging the new app limiting this. Maybe they don’t want to re-write it or reverse engineer it. Or maybe they are just lazy and removing features that they don’t believe is being used. Smoke and mirrors if you ask me.
Anything can be done. We landed and walked on the moon and one upped that by flying on mars. Watch together is not that big of a challenge. Plex is just lazy.

It was very disheartening to read this… I use Watch Together to watch things with my wife when we’re apart. I hope you (Plex) reconsider this decision or devise a different method. Thank you for many great years

I put my Apple TV and my gf’s iPad on manual-only app updates, so we can hopefully continue to use the feature. When we watch at my place, i use Infuse Player anyway. I think I’ll stay with my version of plex with watch together over a new design without it!

This has to be the stupidest decision that Plex has made. I am a life time member
and I have been for many years. If Plex removes the watch together feature then I am done!
I will switch to Jellyfin at this point and abandon plex all together.
This has to be the stupidest thing that Plex has ever done and this will
kill your media platform.
This is used constantly by me as I have friends down in the USA and
I am in Canada and we watch movies together. I run the movie server
here as I have a technical I.T. background.
The watch together feature is widely used by me and clearly other people
as well. check out Reddit as well there is a thread there as well along with
serveral on your own forums plex.

People are telling you they still use the watch together feature and
that is still widely used by people. Plex you need to listen to your customer
base and keep the watch together feature!
If you remove the watch together feature then I am done with plex and
I will switch. This has to be the most bonehead decision plex as ever
made. This will kill the plex media server if you remove the watch together
feature you will lose your customer base!
