This is bad , every time my family travels we stay connected and have fun watching together and commenting , they have trip coming soon and I was searching for a way to do it , unfortunately there is no way to sideload old plex app on iOS , so I have to look into a way to let them use desktop browser

Why in the sweet hell would they take away a core feature that made Plex popular? A bonehead decision by someone who needs a business strategy realignment. This is one of the reasons I bought the lifetime Plex Pass! Do better Plex!

This thread should really be called “The Age of Enshitifcation is here.” - And that’s coming from a Plex Pass Lifetime Subscriber.
I’m now ditching Plex and moving to other platforms, Jellyfin being the top-contender.. Anyone discontent with this change should leave an appropriate review on Plex’s Google App listings as I have recently done. Eventually, they’ll get the hint when they have an unmarketable product.
Don’t be lazy, look up Plex on Goggle Apps, and leave 1 star review if you disagree with this change, noting that this is the reason.

@FIDO - Jellyfin (which you can easily install next to, or in place of, Plex) seems to have a similar Watch Together feature. I haven’t tried it out, but it might restore this functionality for you.

I dont think there jellyfin has watch together in apps.

Yes, Jellyfin seems to have it. It’s called SyncPlay. Here are some screenshots in the app. You create or join a watch group, then it says it’s enabled.
Plex will eventually dig its own grave by treating customers like it is now. The hubris it takes to screw up this bad… it’s truly impressive.

So plex can’t be changed easily unfortunately
Maybe in long future will try to start switching
But for now I hate the stupidness they did
They can easily offer old server version + old app version ( call it legacy ) and users can use that but never update. We are not asking for any update on legacy. Just give us ability to use it,
Issue on some smart devices it forced update and you can’t rollback

Adding my voice here — if Plex makes Watch Together any more difficult to use, I’ll absolutely be looking for alternatives. It’s already frustrating that I can’t use the iOS app to watch with a friend. Thankfully, the Apple TV experience hasn’t been ruined yet — but I fear it’s only a matter of time. I genuinely don’t understand why Plex thought removing or limiting this feature was acceptable.

Watch Together is something I use every night to watch content with my family. I would even be OK if it was scaled back to only be accessible through PlexPass and/or within the same Plex Home account/subaccounts… as long as it’s still a feature within Plex and not entirely removed. I’m going to have to pin my mom’s Plex Roku version to the release that still has watch together and just never update it until this gets re-added into the New Plex Experience.
Being forced to countdown “Three, two one, PLAY” seems so antiquated after utilizing watch together quite literally every day for the last few years!

Plex, please listen to your community. The feature request for this has gathered over 2000 votes. Take a team, dedicate a day or a few days or whatever it takes, and add this to the new UI experience. You’re losing long time users and paying customers.
Plex really dropped the ball here. Going to begin moving my files over to Jellyfin. I’ve been a Plex Pass Lifetime member since 2019 and have been using Plex since 2016. So tragic that they made this drastic change to their app. I’ll be requesting a refund as well, since a feature that was provided has now been removed, making the product less valuable in general and definitely less valuable to me.

The moment the Web UI also loses this feature it’s honestly over, this is such a prime feature of Plex and I can’t believe how removed from their customer base the team that made this decision could be.

It’s amazing how Plex manages to kill off beloved features like Watch Together while forcing hated new “upgrades" like the Roku and Android interfaces.
Seriously, I’m impressed. It’s just not the good kind of impressed.

Just when I needed it, now it’s not there. Been a Plex member since the beginning and I think the past couple of weeks are the first time I’ve felt the need to complain about anything. The horrendous navigation update and the loss of this feature.

The only thing that differentiates Plex from Jellyfin is the “watch together” function, if it disappears, Plex becomes worthless since the others already do everything else for free (and with an interface that supports skins).
A crude comparison: you have the choice between a carrot that you have to pick, peel, cook, and eat, and a ready-made carrot that you pay for, but you have to sit on it. Make your choice.
