After considering the feedback in this forum thread and the different view points represented here, we’ve released some changes to how these indicators will work, along with a new account-level setting to customize your experience.
Personal Media
Personal content from a Plex Media Server will now, by default, display a checkmark on posters for any movie, series, season, or episode you’ve watched. You’ll also see an unwatched count on shows or seasons to indicate how many episodes you haven’t watched yet.
You can hide these indicators (the checkmark and unwatched counts) on certain pages, like the library view, if you like. The setting to control that is located under the Account or Experience section of the app settings (depending on the particular app used). The Watched Indicators for Personal Media setting is account-level (applies to all Plex apps signed in to the same Plex account) and has the following options available;
- Movies & TV Shows (default)
- Movies
- TV Shows
- None
Note: When viewing the detail page for a series or seasons, you’ll still see a checkmark on watched items, even if you’ve chosen “Movies” or “None” for your setting.
Free “Movies & Shows” / Discover
The watched checkmark will not be displayed on posters from Plex’s free, on-demand Movies & Shows catalog or for Discover items, except for seasons / episodes under a series detail page. The previously-noted account setting is only applicable to personal media and does not apply here.
