The one reason I’m maintaining my Emby Server is the ability to watch in progress recordings. Has Plex or does Plex plan on supporting this feature? It’s the one glaring hole in it’s DVR solution compared to Emby…
I don’t know if you saw Android app release 6.10. There is this line:
“Live: support for seeking back into an on-going recording”
So yes, you can watch on going recording now, at least on android tv and android for now. It doesn’t work exactly like the other DVR solution though. You need to find it the in “on going” program guide section and launch it from there.
That is some degree of progress I guess.
I have to think this is also a Plex Server side / backend feature not just something added to the android TV app. So I wonder what version PMS you have to have running for this to work?
I have beta version 1.10.0.4523 running on my Shield. When I click on an ongoing recording from the program guide “on going” section, it asks if I want to start watching it from the beginning.

That’s awesome. This functionality has worked in the public release for Android TV for some time now, but it used to simply start at the beginning of the recording, rather than giving you the option. An “Ongoing” section sounds like a welcome addition as well. I assume some server-side changes have been made to facilitate this, @Octavean, but the fact that Android TV has had had rudimentary support for this for a few months now is an indication that it’s only a matter of time before the other clients follow suit.

Some got it earlier than others.
@kinoCharlino I had a play with this morning and I have a question for you. At the moment if I select “Play from beginning” it feels like a “live” feed in so far as I can’t seem to skip forward to the live content (I tried to use the 30 sec jump ahead button multiple times but it just crashes out of the program you’re watching and then you have to start all over again from the beginning).
Are there plans to make the “full timeshifting” feature better?

Yes of course it’s being improved, but are you on Android TV? If so, you’ll need to be on the latest release 6.10. Please verify your client player and version. Thanks. You should be able to use 30 second skip buttons with 6.10 during this content. You should have options for Watch from start and Watch live.
So potentially coming to Apple TV 4K soon?

Yes. It’s in beta right now and once released will work on the 4th gen and new 4K model.
I used this on the android app over the weekend, and if I did consecutive 30s skip forward it kept crashing out (which caused me to have to start again from the beginning). Was hoping this would allow me to migrate off Emby again and use Plex, but not quite there yet.

Looking forward to this on Roku - May be one of the last things I would need to be able to get rid of my other tuner! Is there a beta for the Roku app? How soon can we expect this?
