When I click on a show already in progress it goes straight to the show without any options to record. Am I missing something? I can click on a future programming and of course the option to record is there but not on a current show. Any suggestions? Thanks.
It is something that just isnāt supported. Many hardware DVRs work in a similar manner where the running program canāt be scheduled. Usually with a hardware DVR you have the option of just pressing āRecordā and manually recording, but Plex DVR has no concept of manual recording at all, and I doubt that will change anytime soon, as it has been a long requested feature.
You may need to look towards other software perhaps, someone may have some recommendations.
Thanks for all the responses. Im using Android TV (Shield), Android phone and also on the web. I believe before when you clicked on a current airing it would bring up an info screen which showed you the progress in a circle, gave you description and had a record button. Now when I click on a current airing on Android or on the web, 1 click starts immediate playback with no options.
Ok, I clicked allow partial airings on DVR settings and now when I hover mouse over current airing on web it shows a record button. I dont see this option on Android though.
I have Android TV (Shield) also and have just recently discovered that I am unable to record a program once the program has started. This is somewhat of a deal breaker for me, a lot of times I will come across a program and want to record it. With Windows Media Player going away with the end of Windows 7 on my HTPC I was planning on going over to Plex. From what LmHome states above it does not sound like this will be changing anytime soon when it has been a long requested feature. Great!
This is pretty irritating, especially since if you pause the show for too long, the plex server will drop the channel. Works fine on the PC interface. Can you please just add this to Android?
One (gross) workaround, sideload Chrome and go through the Chrome browser to plex.tv. You might be able to record from there.
I use a Shield & Fire TV Sticks and both do not have this option. Yet I can do this from a Windows web browser and iPhone app. Seems like lack of support for android type devices which is sad. Hopefully someone will put some type of support into programming android. I have moved to Emby as my primary solution since Plex is inconsistent in this arena.
The problem appears to be with at least some of the clients. Hereās a screenshot from the current Android mobile beta 7.27.0.14844-beta. The same is true for the Android TV beta.
Please report this bug, itās so annoying. It should be a simple fix given other clients already have this functionality. Shield TV and Fire TV should definitely have this feature.
I found a way around this issue. Itās not ideal, but will work until thereās a fix. Go to the search function. Type in the name of the show (this will search all of your media locations). When the show comes up (might have to go down through your media), click on it, and you can then hit record.
Right, I happened to accidentally stumble across a solution for my Sony Android TV.
Highlight the show in progress in the Plex Live TV and DVR Guide, but donāt press Enter. Press the Record button on your remote control. This brings up a dialog box. Select Record to record the show in progress.
While this solution has presented itself unexpectedly for me, it does raise other questions:
Unless Iāve missed it somewhere, this appears to be an undocumented feature.
Recording a show in progress should be treated the same as future scheduled recordings. When selecting a future show, the dialog box thatās presented gives you the option to Record or Go to Show. There doesnāt appear to be any reason why this same dialog box should not also be presented for shows in progress. Currently, selecting a show in progress is treated as Go to Show.
The undocumented feature might work for Plex Android TV, but, of course, it does not work for Plex Android mobile. Addressing the previous point resolves the issue for both platforms.
My desire for this feature usually rises out of the need to go do something while watching something thatās in the buffer and trying to make sure I donāt miss the end⦠New time slot show has started, so if I backed out to do this, it would disappear altogether.
It would also help when Plex hiccups⦠Like last night, I was watching a show that froze while trying to fast forward. New time slot show had started, so I totally missed the second half, since there was no way to rewind back from present āliveā time.
If I had this feature on FireTV, I could preemptively record what Iām watching if it is something I think I care about finishing or if I feel like Iām getting too far behind in the buffer to risk it. (This seems to be a regularly occurring hiccup⦠Two different servers from two different brands, one that can transcode on the fly).
