Trying to watch a show while it’s being recorded is broke. You cannot start from beginning and sometimes even watch live is jacked. There are tons of people who have the exact same problem and have complained. Please fix one of the most important features of a dvr, being able to watch a show while it’s being recorded.
I agree, I just started recording in parallel with windows media center because sometimes i cannot watch something live without missing parts and it infuriates me!
It’s not really integrated in Plex, but you can create a plex library that points to your Media Center “Recorded TV” folder. You can watch these files directly in Plex on Apple tv even if they are currently being recorded. However you must stop playback and start it again when you get to the end to detect the length of the file getting longer as it is recorded. Take note that I am using Windows 7 media center.
Okay guys, I THINK I have found a workable solution that is pretty easy to setup.
Plex – Settings – Enable DLNA (just top checkmark)
AppleTV – Download VLC
Open VLC and you should see your Plex icon. Now VLC is connected to Plex, one step down.
Now with Plex you need to share your .GRAB folder which is usually a hidden folder at the root of where your TV Shows/DVR Recording folder is. You need to add that to Plex, and I just named it ‘Live Recordings’ to make it simple.
With that done you have to jump through some hoops in VLC, you need to go to Plex, Videos, Live Recordings (or whatever you named it) and then go to recently added. Click the first show in the list, and it will start playing and you can start/stop/rewind and from my short testing you can go to the end of the show and it keeps playing as it knows its still being recorded.
I know this is not an ideal situation and if anyone has any problems getting it setup I will do my best to help.
I am just thrilled I can watch a show Plex is recording, even if its a different app. Its all free!
After testing this for a few days, it does work but when it catches up to live TV you have to exit the stream and open it back up. You will have to scrub back to the spot it stopped. It’s not as good as I thought unfortunately.
