If someone I know gets the email and does this, I’ll gladly send them the obligatory picture collage (for their platform(s)) demonstrating how to fix the default setting… again. I’m not going to tell anyone not to. BUT, I can’t bring myself to tell the whole fam to do it and make that headache for myself… again.
And then if leaked access tokens start being used to exploit us, that’s on us? Feels like we are backed into a corner here, it’s take a risk or jump through these hoops again. I’ve had these pic collages for like 6 years. I’ve had to remake them as Plex changed. I don’t have a device with Tizen so I have to go to someone else’s house to make that one.
Being the family tech support for like 30 years, there isn’t a single tech item or software that I have been saddled by a policy like this. I thought this seemed a touch sadistic by 2019.
I’m actually very well, thank you! So officially, there’s no reason to log out devices? The official post says, “When doing so, there’s a checkbox to “Sign out connected devices after password change.” This will additionally sign out all of your devices (including any Plex Media Server you own) and require you to sign back in with your new password. This is a headache, but we recommend doing so for increased security.”
Are you contradicting that? I can wait for clarity if Plex is unsure.
I’m contradicting your claim that after signing out the devices you need to walk your family through reconfiguring their clients. Signing out connected devices does just that – the devices are no longer linked to your / their accounts. By signing back in, the client config hasn’t otherwise changed.
Okay, thanks. I just tested it on Android and the streaming settings did stick but the home layout did not, but I can live with that. This was not the case at one time. Is this true of every platform now? Roku and Tizen as well?
I did a Roku and it was the same as Android, home setting lost but streaming bitrate was retained. I should have tested before posting but this was not the case, for years.
I really appreciate this change, but my pic collages still have their own folder in my phone and usage is embarrassingly frequent.
Thanks for correcting me on this.
