We can get DTS with MKV's fixed!

People, if you have an Xbox One and you use it to play back your movies stored on your network please take a look here and vote if you can. We might be able to get this fixed!

I understand that it is important for you, but please do not spread misinformation just for the sake of getting more visibility. I am referring to your comment on that site. Transcoding audio is NOT a huge taxing issue for a powerful server. It is a huge taxing issue for a NAS CPU though. The difference is vast. Like saying that a Skoda from 1995 is a powerful car.

Hey Atrus,

I just wanted to clear some things up. Referring to your comment, if I were trying to garner support by "spreading misinformation" wouldn't I lead with that? Instead of that being part of lower posts. Also it's not just a big issue for me, it's a big issue for most people that wish to use Plex on their xbox one, full stop. A great majority of people's high quality libraries will likely be in the MKV format with a DTS sound track.

Also I don't believe I make any comparisons regarding performance, and a NAS doesn't come into it. So I'm not sure where this comparison business comes from. What I can say is that as soon as Plex is asked to play any high quality (large) MKV through the Xbox One the transcoding goes into overdrive and results in choppy play back from the Xbox. This isn't just my observation but many people from this forum and many others. I realize this is just Plex doing it's best to cope with MS's hold on the DTS format within it's console but it is an issue that I would imagine we as a community of customers and Plex themselves would like to have addressed. Sooner rather than later too as quite simply it will with out doubt effect subscription numbers. In fact I would have thought it worthwhile for you to support the Plex community in getting behind this.

In fact being a Plex Ninja do you know of any time frame within which this problem might get addressed?

Thank in advance for any help information you can give.

Microsoft is very tightlipped about it I'm afraid. There is no information from them just yet.

And you are right, I would love to see DTS support. We all are very interested in that. The only thing I objected against was that you used a few words that if read by others might turn them away from Plex because they would think that a super computer would be needed to transcode a single movie. Which is what I objected against =)

Could this maybe, possible, be moved to the XB1 forum instead of the 360 forum?

That is a shame, I love using Plex across my devices and whilst there are things that are still being developed and improved on the Xbox One app it is a great app. It's just this MKV/DTS issue that is really stopping me from enjoying Plex in the way I want to.

Hopefully if we can push MS this can fixed soon, thanks for your response

Good point!

Moved.

Thanks for posting this thread - I just voted!

My 5 year old i7 with 4 Gig Ram transcodes straight BluRay rips just fine.  It doesn't take a very powerful machine by today's standards.  That said, I was definitely like to see direct DTS support from MS.. and true audio passthru while we're at it.

Is there a way to get Plex to force trans-coding DTS audio into AC3 5.1 on MKV's that are Direct Streamed?  Mine seem to be playing as 2.0 stereo for some reason.  :(
