We seriously need an update to the Xbox plex app

Bitstreaming goes live next week, so you should be good to go after that.

For everything or just the Blu-ray app? The other issue is the reference frame errors on direct play Blu-ray rips. I assume Plex just uses the built in codecs provided by Microsoft?

they are separate issues. The fix for blurays (actual blurays in drive) bitstreaming up to atmos is next week

The plex app issues will be solved whenever plex solves them

Lol! Oh… I think I’ve put a disc in that slot one time since I bought it…

Hopefully Plex can add that option too so my AVR can do the sound processing. And fix the reference frame issue while they’re at it. There’s no reason the Xbox One app shouldn’t be the best Plex client app available considering it’s a full blown 64bit Windows 10 box.

If thats what you are waiting for i think you might be better off with another device…i don’t see the xbox giving permission for bitstreaming or any of the other stuff we want (24 hz mode)

I think eventually the plex team will update the app to the uwp version…so perf should improve dramatically and being off the old app system updates will be often and with the phone/win10 versions

How i setup my avr is to ouput from xbox over hdmi at 5 channel uncompressed for all surround content and also over optical for uncompressed stereo…if i’m watching stereo content i change to that output and then i can put pro logic 2 on

Not the best solution and why i’m using libreelec more often recently

Oh geez. So… What is the best client app? Roku?

Also remember at some point in the future kodi is coming to xbox one

Then we can run the kodi video plugin for plex on the xbox…but still probably no bitstreaming or 24hz

Others have written guides to this…the options are kind of staggering (what would be nice is a chart with check boxes on features and what clients support them) An htpc is probably of course the best and support basically everything depending on how much work you want to put in. Of the normal stb’s probably fire tv is the most feature complete

EDIT: Others are welcome to disagree or add anything to my comments

Alright. I don’t really like the Xbox One S anyway so I guess I’ll just sell it and pick up a couple of the new 4k Fire TV’s.

How does the Shield compare?

id reccommend rasberry pi 3 and use rasplex much faster and better looking interface plus hs amazing feature list

Lol! Too late! (not really)

I just got back from Best Buy with a Shield. As far as playback performance, it’s killer! The interface is basic but DTS-MA passed right on through to my AVR in direct play. No reference frame errors either. Plus it can be a PMS in the event I need it to be in a pinch.

So… So far it’s a winner. Some of the individual network apps aren’t available in the Google TV Play store but I suspect that will change over time.

Has anybody seen this before on xbox one, page/screen seem frozen?

Any news @Moussa? it’s been a while and we haven’t heard much since your last update that it was coming soon and I’m sure that was about 2 months ago?

I agree with everyone here, we need something better. I mean, we have a device 10 times more powerfull than many other hardware that got better Plex app on it. It make no sense. We should have, at least, the Windows 10 UWP.

Dreaming of an update for the Xbox One! There is often a photo of an Xbox One in the newsletter and I keep thinking that it is FINALLY news. Hope something big is coming.

Well back when the Windows 10 and Windows Mobile Store Preview was released for the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) I saw the Xbox one version show up, but this is because I have engineering builds on my Xbox One, then it was removed once I asked Plex about it, guess it was an accidently oversight, this was at least a year ago.

Honestly the Store Plex app is UWP, it should easily work on Xbox, Surface Hub, and HoloLens. Kind of wondering if they are having some major challenges because the Windows 10 version work great, very surprised the Xbox is available by now.

it would be nice, when you see all the other apps like android, ios to name some getting updates all the time and then we aint had anything on xbox for about 2 years now… it makes me sad.

Moussa commented on another thread just the other day. It’s here.

In general Plex doesn’t announce what features are upcoming/being worked on, for a variety of reasons. But don’t worry, we are always listening to what forum users have to say, and we’re working away on a future update that should please a lot of people!

I purchased an Xbox One S before Christmas because the price was too good to pass up and I thought it would be the ultimate streaming device with all of it’s horsepower under the hood… Plus I needed a new Blu-ray player so for $220 it was a no brainier. I don’t play video games so none of that was important to me.

I have to say it hasn’t been that great at… Anything really? The fact I can’t direct stream a Blu-ray is annoying. The “multi-channel” audio output is annoying… So… I don’t know what to go with. Are they’re any streaming media players that have a good Plex app?

just so you know…new xbox update today will fix your bluray issues

A friend of mine purchased Xbox one with same intention!

Plex app at xbox is a shame. I agree to all the comments.

When is the update to this outdated app coming Plex support?

So… After I updated the Blu-ray player app, in the system audio settings, I now have the option for bitstream out for everything! Here’s the catch. The XB converts everything to either DTS or AC3 depending on your selection. So no matter what the original audio stream is, it’s converted to one of the two choices and sent to the AVR as a bitstream.

This might actually be worse than just using uncompressed multi channel out.
